Henry Lee Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia
To all to whom these presents shall come, Greetings; Know you that by
virtue of a Land Office Treasury Warrant Number twenty
thousand two hundred and forty seven, issued the ninth day of
December one thousand seven hundred and eighty three
granted by the said Commonwealth unto Alexander Murphy
a certain Tract or parcel of Land, containing ninety six Acres by
survey bearing Date the fifth day of June, one thousand seven
hundred and ninety lying and being in the County of Russell
and bounded as follows To wit, Beginning at a Chestnut
Sugar tree and Chestnut oak, corner to Robert Preston and
with his line and passing his corner, North forty degrees West
one hundred and forty poles to a white oak on the South
side of Priests ridge, North twenty nine degrees East one
hundred and sixty poles along said ridge to a double
chestnut on the side of said ridge, South fifty seven degrees,
East fifty poles crossing a branch to a Walnut Lynn and ash
by a small branch, South eight degrees West two hundred and
twenty two poles to the Beginning with its Appurtenances; To
have and to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land, with its
Appurtenances , to the said Alexander Murphy and his Heirs
Forever, In Witness whereof the said Henry Lee Esquire,
Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set
his Hand, and Caused the lesser Seal of the said Common-
wealth to be Affixed at Richmond, on the twenty first day
of November in the year of our Lord, one thousand seven
hundred and ninety two, and of the Commonwealth the
Seventeenth.
