From the unpublished manuscript, Indian Atrocities Along the Clinch, Powell and Holston Rivers, page 155.
Francis Preston writing to Governor Edmund Randolph, on April 23, 1787, states:
...On Saturday last, there was a family murdered on Clinch of 13 or 14...(Calender Virginia State Papers, Vol. IV, page 272.)
I have not been able to connect the above killing with any known family who were murdered on the waters of Clinch River at this date.
Col. Walter Crockett, County Lieutenant of Montgomery Co., wrote to the Governor on June 11, 1787, stating:
The Indians continue their hostilities against the frontier of Montgomery County, and have killed 5 persons in the course of the spring, to-wit: 2 men, and 3 women. (Calender Virginia State Papers, Vol. IV, page 295.) At the above date Tazewell Co., VA, was within the bounds of Montgomery Co.
