This Indenture made the twenty second day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty six [22 Jan 1836] between George Robinson and Nancy his wife, Hiram Fullen and Hannah his wife, James G. Martin and Peggy his wife, Samuel Robinson and Celia his wife, Thomas Price and Patsey his wife, William Martin and Rhoda his wife, Richard Price and Priscilla his wife, William Price Jr. and John Price all of the County of Russell in the State of Virginia of the one part and James S. Browning of the same place of the other. Witnesseth that for & consideration of the sum of one hundred and eighty dollars of lawful money to them in hand paid by the said James S. Browning at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof they hereby acknowledged. They the said George Robinson and Nancy his wife, Hiram Fullen and Hannah his wife, James G. Martin and Peggy his wife, Samuel Robinson and Celia his wife, Thomas Price and Patsey his wife, William Martin and Rhoda his wife, Richard Price and Priscilla his wife, William Price Jr. and John Price have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said James S. Browning nine tenths of a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being in the said County of Russell on the waters of Cedar Creek a branch of Clinch River containing by survey one hundred and sixty four acres [164 acres] which said tract of land was granted by the Com'th of Virginia to the late Thomas Price Jr. dec'd by patent dated the 15th day of November 1792 and descended to them and Sally the wife of said James S. Browning as joint heirs of said Thomas Price jr. dec'd and is bounded as follows to wit Beginning at a Gum and two white oaks corner to Thomas Price sen'r 400 acre Survey thence N 63 W 64 poles to two chesnuts on a ridge N 34 W 84 poles to a chesnut and small walnut on a high ridge N 10 E 84 poles to a chesnut in John Thompson's line, and with his line N 87 E 75 poles to a chesnut oak and dogwood thence leaving said line S 16 E 68 poles to a poplar on a hill side N 33 E 86 poles to a small poplar in a line of Thomas Price Sen'r said 400 acre tract and with the lines of the same S 21 E 75 poles to two white oaks S 38 W 74 poles to three white oaks on the East side of a ridge Thence S 12 W 63 poles to two white oaks N 64 W 12 poles to the Beginning. To have and to hold the said nine tenths of the said tract of land unto him the said James S. Browning and his heirs and assigns forever excepting nevertheless the widow's dower during her natural life in ??? the said nine tenths of said land. And the said George Robinson and Nancy his wife, Hiram Fullen and Hannah his wife, James G. Martin and Peggy his wife, Samuel Robinsonand Celia his wife, Thomas Price and Patsey his wife, William Martin and Rhoda his wife, Richard Price and Priscilla his wife, William Price Jr. and John Price for themselves and their heirs do hereby covenant to and with the said James S. Browning that they the said George Robinson and Nancy his wife, Hiram Fullen and Hannahhis wife, James G. Martin and Peggy his wife, Samuel Robinson and Celia his wife, Thomas Price and Patseyhis wife, William Martin and Rhoda his wife, Richard Price and Priscilla his wife, William Price Jr. and John Price the tract of land aforesaid with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in an appertaining unto him the said James S. Browning and his heirs free from the claim of them or either of them their heirs or the heirs of either of them and of all and any person (except the dower aforesaid) whomsoever shall will and do by these presents warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said George Robinson and Nancy his wife, Hiram Fullen and Hannah his wife, James G. Martin and Peggy his wife, Samuel Robinson and Celia his wife, Thomas Price and Patsey his wife, William Martin and Rhoda his wife, Richard Price and Priscilla his wife, William Price Jr. and John Price have hereunto set their hands and seals the date first herein written

We William Price and George W. Johnson Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Hiram Fullen, William Martin, James G. Martin, Samuel Robinson, Thomas Price, Richard Price, and William Price parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 22nd day of January 1836 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County Court of Russell in order that the said Deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this 29th January 1836.

We William Price and George W. Johnson, Justices of the peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that Hannah Fullen the wife of Hiram Fullen, Peggy Martin the wife of James G. Martin, Celia Robinson the wife of Samuel Robinson, Rhoda Martin the wife of William Martin, Priscilla Price the wife of Richard Price, and Patsey Price the wife of Thomas Price parties to a certain deed having date on the 22nd day of January 1836 and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and having been examined by us privily and apart from their husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to them they the said Hannah Fullen, Peggy Martin, Celia Robinson, Rhoda Martin, Priscilla Price, and Patsey Price (severally) acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and (severally) declared that they had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and that they wished not to retract it. Given under our hands and seals this 29th January 1836

We James Browning and Harvey Gray, Justices of the peace in the county of aforesaid in the state of Virginia do hereby certify that Nancy Robinson the wife of George Robinson parties to a certain deed bearing date on the 22nd day of January in the year of Our Lord one thousand eight hundred & thirty six and hereunto annexed personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from her husband and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her she the said Nancy Robinson acknowledged the same to be her act and deed and declared that she had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and that she wished not to retract it. Given under our hands and seals this 22nd day of April 1836.

This Indenture of bargain and sale from George Robinson & others to James S. Browning was acknowledged before me in the Clerks Office of Russell County on the 2d day of February 1836 by George Robinson & John Price two of the parties thereto to be their act and deed and was again produced to me in the said Clerks office on the 22d of April 1836 on the certificate of its acknowledgment by the other parties of the first part before two Justices of the Peace and admitted to record.
