This Indenture made this 26th day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventeen Between Walter Preston of the County of Clarke and State of
Kentucky of the one part and Thomas Francis Jr. of the County of Russell and State of
Virginia of the other part
Witnesseth, that the said Walter Preston for and in consideration of the sum of two
hundred and forty Dollars current money of the United States to him in hand paid, the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, doth grant bargain and sell unto the said
Thomas Francis jr. a certain tract or parcel of land containing two hundred acres be the
same more or less, lying and being in the County of Russell aforesaid by patent bearing
date the third day of July 1800 on the Gravelly lick fork a branch of Clinch River and
including said lick, and bounded as followeth, to wit, Beginning at three white oaks in a
flat at the foot of a ridge about forty poles above said lick S. 65 W 93 poles to two white
oaks on a spur of a ridge S. 37 W. 70 poles to a large white oak, maple and sourwood on
the bank of a small branch S30 degrees E. 150 poles to a white oak on the top of a ridge
N. 50 degree E. 260 poles to a Stake N 82 W. 160 poles to the Beginning. With all its
appurtenances. To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with all its
appurtenances unto the said Thomas Francis jr. and his heirs to the sole use and behoof of
him the said Thomas Francis jr. and his heirs forever. And the said Walter Preston for
himself and his heirs, doth covenant with the said Thomas Francis jr. and his heirs that he
the said Walter Preston and his heirs the said tract or parcel of land with all its
appurtenances unto the said Thomas Francis Jr. and his heirs against the claims of all
persons whomsoever shall warrant and will forever defend. In witness whereof the said
Walter Preston hath hereunto Subscribed his name and affixed his seal, the day and year
first above written.

At a Court continued and held for Washington County the 22d. day of November 1817.
This Indenture of bargain and sale between Walter Preston of the one part and Thomas
Francis junr. of the other part was proven in Court by the oath of Francis Irby, Robert R.
Preston and Richard White jr. the witnesses thereto to be the act and deed of the said
Walter Preston, and order to be certified.

This Indenture of bargain and sale from Walter Preston to Thomas Francis junr. certified
to have been proved as the law directs in the County Court of Washington, was produced
