This Indenture made the 1st day of April, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and thirty five Between Mary Hamon widow of the late John Hamon, deceased, and John Hamon and Peggy his wife, James H. Hamon and Lucinda his wife, Esau Hamon and Elizabeth his wife, Elijah Laforce and Mahala his wife formerly Mahala Hamon, John Smith and Frances his wife, formerly Frances Hamon, children and heirs at law of the said John Hamon deceased, all of Russell County and State of Virginia, of the first part, and William Grizzle of the said County of Russell of the second part Witnesseth, that the said parties of the first part as well for and in consdieration of receiving title and possession to 40 acres of land lying on the Middle fork of Dumps Creek upon which the said Mary Hamon and her family now reside, which title is to be made to the heirs at law of said John Hamon deceased, as of one dollar to them in hand paid by the said William Grizzle at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipts whereof is hereby acknowledged, have granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell unto the said William Grizzle and his heirs all their interest in a certain tract or parcel of land containing thirty acres be the same more or less, lying and being in the said County of Russell on the waters of Dumps Creek which was conveyed to the said John Hamon in his life time by deed made from John Kizer and Nancy his wife of record in the clerk's office of said county and bearing date on the 9th day of September, and bounded as follows: Beginning at a white oak marked with three chops a division corner to John Hamon's land thence S. 4 degrees W about eighteen poles to a buckeye, birch and dogwood in a bottom S. 20 degrees E. about forty poles to the mouth of Dumps Creek thence up the siad Creek to another division corner between the said John Hamon and Joseph Kizer, and thence a west course with said division line along a guly [sic] to the beginning with its appurtenances; To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land unto the said William Grizzle, his heirs and assigns, to the sole use and beh_of [?] of the said William Grizzle, his heirs and assigns, forever. And the said parties of the first part for themselves and their heirs do covenant and agree with the said William Grizzle and his heirs that they the said parties of the first part and their heirs all their interest in the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances unto the said William Grizzle and his heirs, against the claims of all persons whomsoever, shall warrant and will forever defend by these presents. And whereas the said William Grizzle is to have an entire and perfect title to the said tract of land of thirty acres for the consideration above expected in this indenture, and whereas the title to the residue of the premises is in Robert Hamon, William Hamon, Joshua Hamon, Rebekah Hamon and David Hamon infant children and heirs at law of the said John Hamon deceased, who on accounty of their minority cannot now join in the conveyance of the said tract of land to the said William Grizzle; the said parties of the first part & their heirs do therefore hereby further covenant and agree with the said William Grizzle and his heirs, that they the said parties of the first part and their heirs will hereafter procure, or cause to be procured, wherever the same can be legally obtained, the legal title of the premises aforesaid to be made to the said William Grizzle or his heirs, which now is in the said Robert Hamon, Wm Hamon, Joshua Hamon, Rebekah Hamon and David Hamon.

In witness whereof the said parties of the first part have hereunto subscribed their names and affixed their seals the day and year first herein written.

Russell County to wit:
We John Colly and John Jessee Justices of the peace in county aforesaid in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that Mary Hamon widow of John Hamon Deceased, Margaret Hamon wife of John Hamon, Elizabeth Hamon wife of Esau Hamon, Mahala Laforce wife of Elijah Laforce, formerly Mahala Hamon. Frances Smith wife of John Smith, formerly Frances Hamon, parties to a certain deed bearing date on the first day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty five and hereinto annexed, personally appeared before us in our county aforesaid and being examined by us privily and apart from their husbands, and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to them, they said Mary Hamon, Margaret Hamon, Elizabeth Hamon, Mahala Laforce, and Frances Smith, acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and declared that they had willingly signed sealed and delivered the same and that they wished not to retract it. Given under our hands and seals this 9th day of May 1835.

Russell County to wit.
We John Colly and John Jessee Justices of the peace in the county aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that John Hamon, Esau Hamon, Elijah Laforce, and John Smith, parties to a certain deed bearing date on the first day of April one thousand eight hundred and thirty five and hereuto annexed personally appeared before as in our county aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledged to the Clerk of the County Court of Russell in order that the said deed may be recorded given under our hands and seals this 9th day of May 1835. This Indenture of bargain and sale from Mary Hamon and others to William Grizzle certified to have been acknowledged by some of the parties before two justices of the peace, was produced to me in the clerks office of Russell County on the 8th day of Sept 1835, acknowledged by James H. Hamons one of the parties thereto his act and deed and admitted to record.
