We William Price and George W. Johnson justices of the Peace in the County aforesaid in the State of Virginia do hereby certify that James Bays, Peter Bays, Andrew R. Martin, and Harrington Little, parties to a certain deed, which is above written, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid, and acknowledged the same to be their act and deed and desired us to certify the said acknowledgment to the Clerk of the County Court of Russell in order that the said deed be recorded. Given under our hands and seals this second day of January, 1836.

Russell County to wit
We William Price and George W. Johnson justices of the Peace in the County of Russell in the State of Virginia, do hereby certify that Ruth Bays the wife of James Bays, Mary Martin the wife of Andrew R. Martin and Susannah Little the wife of Harrington Little parties to a certain deed bearing date the seventh day of November in the year of our Lord 1835, unto which this certificate is annexed personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and being examined by us privately and apart from their husbands, and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to them, they the said Ruth Bays, Mary Martin and Susannah Little, acknowledged the same to be their act and deed, and declared that they had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same, and that they wished not to retract it. Given under our hands and seals this second day of January, 1836.

This Indenture of bargain and sale from James Bays and others heirs of Peter Bays deceased to John Bays was acknowledged before me in the Clerk's Office of Russell County on the 21st day of May 1836 by Joel Bays a party thereto, and together with the certificate of its acknowledgment by the other parties, before Justices of the peace as the law directs, being personally filed in said office with such certificates on the 2d of April, 1836 was admitted to record.
