Jacob Witt De Vault

Jacob W Da Vault was born in Lee Cty about1840 . He was a Lt. in the 50th Va Inf Co B and saw action at Gettysburg, The Wilderness and Spotsylvania. He was in defense of the salient at Spotsylvania when it was overrun and he was captured. He was sent to Elmira POw Camp for over a year. The remainder of his life he refused to wear blue. He built rafts after the war, to take area goods down the Powell and Tennesee Rivers to markets. He had several children including my Great Grandfathe William Wellington Da Vault,also born in Leesville. He came to Texas in 1875 and married a girl from Powell Mountain, Lizzie Lawson.
