John Hamon this day personally appeared in court and being duly sworn deposeth and saith that he was in the United States service at Norfolk in this state with a detachment of militia from the County of Russell, that he marched under his command William McLaughlin, who was a private in his company, that the said William McLaughlin before his death was attached to the 6th regiment of Virginia Militia commanded he thinks by Col. Booth and that the said William McLaughlin died at Norfolk of sickness about the 5th day of December 1814 as a private soldier in said service.
Edward Kelley being duly sworn deposeth that he joined together in matrimony the said William McLaughlin with the said Rachel.
Obadiah Fulks a respectable person being sworn deposeth that the said Rachel McLaughlin widow of the said William McGlaughlin now resides with her children in the said County of Russell, is yet unmarried and had at the time of the said Williams decease two children.
The said Rachel being duly sworn deposeth that she has two children of her late husband William McLaughlin to wit a daughter named Judith about six years old and a son named James three years old the 4th of January last.
