Descendants of Samuel Lee
Generation No. 1
1. SAMUEL4 LEE (HUGH3, HUGH2, HUGH1) was born 1692 in Prince George County,
Virginia (Old Charles City Co.), and died August 14, 1759 in Prince George
County, Virginia. He married FRANCES
1719. She was born Bet. 1686 - 1705,
and died Aft. 1759.
Notes for SAMUEL LEE:
Samuel and Frances lived in Bristol Parish, Prince George County. His land was located on both sides of the Great Branch of Warwick Swamp. Several grants of land in that area: 172 acres on north side of Swamp in 1717; 153 acres on June 22, 1722; and 354 additional acres on September 28, 1732. In 1714 Samuel received as a gift from his parents, Hugh and Ann, 100 acres in Prince George County where he was living. In 1737 he was granted 2,000 acres on Warwick swamp.
Along present day Rt. 156 in Prince George County,
west of that road and east of Rt. 310/I-95, is Lee Mill Pond which appears to
be fed by the Great Warwick Swamp. Take
the Carson Exit off I-95, turn left and left again on Rt. 156. There is also a housing subdivision known as
Lee's Mill. The land on both sides of
Lee's Mill Pond is nice, high land which has obviously been farmed in the not
too distant past. Lee's Mill Pond
appears to be home to a fishing club now.
Rt. 156 is a straight shot north to Hopewell which in the late 1600's
and 18th Centuries was known as Cittie Point.
Between Lee Mill Pond and Hopewell, one crosses Blackwater swamp. Note
that Samuel's grandfather, Hugh Lee, patented land "South of the
Appomattox on the third branch of the Blackwater River."
Samuel's will is dated June 10, 1759 and his estate
was inventoried on October 9, 1759 by his son Thomas.

Notes for LODOWICK LEE:
A confusing reference in a summary of Prince George
records concerns a survey of "Mrs. Sally Lee's dower" by court order
11-15-1823, dower land of 118 acres with buildings. Division was:
Sally 47 acres
Jeremiah Clements (for Mary Lee, Lodowick's sister
?) 37 acres
Lodowick Lee's children (Stith and Susannah) 34
acres
If this is Sally Clements Lee, then there must have
been a will leaving assets to Lodowick's sister Mary. That's only way this
makes sense to me, that or this is not Sally Clements.

living with wife Sarah (46) and children:
Ellen (20), Mary (17), Sarah (13), Jane (10), Mariah L. (7). He was a farmer and lived at High Peak Farm
near Monroe, Virginia. With the naming
of Virginia's roads, there is a "High Peak Road" that runs from old
US 29 (a loop cut off by the current four lane, just south of the railroad
overpass) to the farm.
1860 census:
House 189, family 187; neighbors Stephen Burch? and John Coleman. Real estate value of $2,500 and personal
property of $2,000.
