Clerk's Office
Circuit Court of Nelson County
Courthouse
Lovingston, VA 22949

The Clerk's office has marriage records, deeds and wills from the beginning of the county to the present. Some court order books remain, and other miscellaneous records. Between 1853 and 1874, counties were required to register births and deaths. That registry is in the office. Other loose papers (such as judgments) are still unsorted unindexed, and bundled in the record room. Copies are 50 cents per page.
Chancery records for this county before 1900 have been sent to the Library of Virginia and are being processed. The Clerk retained copies of plats found in the records sent to Richmond.
