Archie Phlegar Harman, 61, of James Street in Christiansburg
died Tuesday in a Radford hospital.
Harman was a general manager of the Freezer & Son Shirt
Factory ar Radford. Harman began working for the
company when it had been a factory in Floyd. He moved with the plant to Radford
in the late 30’s and was later named general manager.
Surviving are his wife, Reba Slusher
Harman; a daughter, Miss Kathy Elizabeth Harman, Madison College, two sisters;
Mrs. Blanche Parrish, Mrs. R L Lucas, Christiansburg, a brother Thomas H
Harman, Blacksburg.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3pm at the Main
Street Baptist Church with burial in Sunset Cemetery.

Veronica Lynn McCoy, infant daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Clifton Lee McCoy of McCoy died Wednesday in a
Radford hospital.
Also surviving are her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Harry
Byrd Saville, Mr. & Mrs. William S McCoy all of
McCoy.
A graveside service was held Wednesday at McCoy Cemetery.
Hoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg handled arrangements.

Lacy Gratton Sweeney, 78
died Wednesday, July 8, 1970, in a Christiansburg hospital. He was a retired
carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Verna Guynn
Sweeney; four daughters, Mrs. Ruth Harman, Salem, Mrs. Evelyn Davis, Tampa
Florida., Mrs. Norma Jean Price, Bedford, Mrs. Bobby Criner,
Pembroke; three sons, Clarence A Sweeney, Pembroke, James W Sweeney, Salem;
Howard I Sweeney, Blacksburg; two brothers, Milton Sweeney, Roanoke, Dewey
Sweeney, Allen Junction, WV, Mrs. Edna Reedy, Corinne, WV, Mrs. Gaynie Lovern, Mrs. Rushie Lovern, and Mrs. Mae Cupp, all of Blacksburg.
The funeral was held at 2pm Friday ,
July 10, 1970 at Trinity Methodist Church, Ellett.
Interment was in North Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, Ellett.
The services were conducted by the Rev. Albert E Gringrich
and the Rev. H D Sawyer.
Mr. Sweeney’s grandsons served as his pallbearers.

Mrs. J Lauton Huffman
Kathryn Pfadt Huffman of
Wilmington De formerly of Blacksburg died Monday July 6, 1970, in Wilmington
following a long illness. She was the wife of J. Lawton Huffman who was
affiliated with Hercules Inc. during their residence in Blacksburg.
A native of Alleghany County, Mrs. Huffman was graduated
from National Business College, Roanoke and attended VPI and Frostberg State Teachers College.
Surviving other than her husband are a daughter, Miss Petra
Kay Huffman, Wilmington,De.Her mother Mrs. Don E
Forester, Birmingham Mi.; a sister, Mrs. T B Burton, Virginia Beach; a half
sister, Mrs. Donna Chapman, Lawton, Ok., and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Helen
Robertson, Roanoke.
A graveside Service was held at 11:30 AM Wednesday, July 8,
1970, at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family
suggested that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, in Mrs. Huffmans name.

Brother Dies
Kermit Roosevelt Phillips, 61, of Indian Valley who
died Tuesday, July 7, 1970 in a Roanoke Hospital was a brother of Mrs. Maudie Gillimore of Blacksburg.
The funeral was held at 2pm. Thursday July 9, 1970 at Maybery Funeral Chapel, Floyd with interment in Montgomery
Cemetery.
