Before me Robert White sole & presiding Judge of the Superior Court of Law for the County aforesaid on this the eleventh day of April eighteen hundred and eighteen came Henry Oram of the said County aged Upwards of Sixty years and being by me first duly sworn doth on oath make the following declaration in order to obtain benefit of a late act of Congress entitled “An Act to provide for Certain persons engaged in the Land & Naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War” And that he the said Henry Oram did enlist as a common Soldier in the sixteenth additional Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel William Grayson in the service of the United States on the 1st day of April 1777 for the term of three years that he continued to serve in that regiment until the expiration of said term during which he was in the battles of Brandywine [11 Sep 1777] Germantown [4 Oct 1777] and Monmouth Court House [28 June 1778] and that at the expiration of said term Viz on the first day of April 1780 he was discharged at Frederick Town in Maryland that he has lost his discharge and has no other evidence of his said service in his power than the Certificates of Francis Whiting late a Lieutenant in said Regiment [see endnote] and the affidavit of William Sparks and John Hilliard [pension application W7748] made before Joshua Osburn and Presley Cadell two of the justices of the peace for said County and that he is in reduced circumstances and stands in need of his Countrys assistance for a support

On this 11th day of June 1821 Personally Appeared in Open Court being a Court of Record for the County Aforesaid in the State afores’d. (because the Proceedings of said Court are always Recorded and kept for the Purpose of being refered to as Occasion may require) Henry Oram aged Sixty three years resident in the County and State beforesaid who being first duly sworn according to Law doth on his Oath declare that he served in the Revolutionary War as follows in the Sixteenth Regiment Commanded by Colo. William Grayson in the Company of Francis Willis of the Virginia line for the Term of three years that he was placed or inscribed on the Pension list Roll of the Virginia Agency on the 10th April 1819 Commencing on the 18th of April 1818 as per Certificate No 9109 and in conformity to the Law of the United States of the 18th March 1818 And I do solemnly swear that I was a resident Citizen of the United States on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not since that time by gift sale or in any manner disposed of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it as to bring myself withing the provisions of an act of Congress entitled“an act to provide for certain person engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War passed on the 18th day of March 1818 and that I have not nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities contracts or debts due to me nor have I any income other than what is contained in the Schedule hereto annexed and by me subscribed.
The following is a Schedule of said Henry Orems property. one lot of poor stoney unproductive Land lying on the top of the Blue Ridge Mountain part in Loudoun and part in Jefferson County containing one hundred and two acres $200.

The said Henry Orem is a Cooper. is infirm and with difficulty that he can work and labour and cannot on account of his bodily infirmities persue his Occupation to any Advantage. his family consists of Eight Persons towit. his mother Ann Orem aged between 80 and 90 years. his wife Mary aged 33 years. his son Enos[?] Oram an Idiot aged about 18 years. Henry Orem aged about 16 years. Emily aged about 8 years. Mary about 3 years old. Armistead aged 4 months and the declarant himself none of his said family can contribute to their support or very little except Henry and he is a Cripple Occasioned by a fall frequently unable thereby to labour at all.
