The microfilm rolls are available for viewing at the National Archives in Washington, D.C. They are also more conveniently located at Alderman Library at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, seventy miles from Highland County. The Alderman Library owns all extant census records for Virginia. The records at UVA are stored in accessible file cabinets on the 3rd floor of the library. It is rarely crowded and knowledgeable helpers are available for assistance.
