But the VA Library archives show what appears to be the same Joseph as dying in

This John is believed to have been (Capt.) John Hancock b 1753; m 1774 VA to
Nancy Ann Graves when they lived in Louisa Co., VA. Later they removed to

believed on circumstantial evidence to have been the s/o Benjamin & Mary

GOOCH
I am seeking assistance to find Thomas W. Gooch's family in Virginia 1750 -1820,
in Hanover, Louisa or Albemarle counties. In addition to posting a Query I seek
professional and/or voluntary research assistance. Refer to the attached:
Thomas W. died in 1862 in Pope Co., AR. The search of records in Arkansas and
Pope Co. show no record of Thomas W., but many records were destroyed in this
area during the Civil War. Searching for Thomas W.'s parents have produced
nothing to date. At least two NC families had sons by the name of Thomas but
there is sufficient information to conclude neither was Thomas W. of Orange Co.,
NC. They are: Thomas the son of Daniel Gooch of Granville Co. and Nancy Sneed.
Thomas the son of Rowland Gooch of Granville Co. who married Jemima Hester in
1803. There were no Thomases in Orange Co., NC censuses in 1810 or 1820.
There were Thomasís in VA that could be the Thomas W. of NC, or his father,
including the following:
Thomas W. Albemarle Co., VA in 1810, 1820 & 1830 Censuses, but not 1840! Thomas
of Louisa Co., VA in 1820 & 1830 Censuses but not 1840! Thomas, one of 12
children of William Gooch of Hanover, VA (1739-1802) and Frances Rice
(1740-1816) of Caswell, NC; they were married in 1762. This Thomas would have
married at age 37, fathered Thomas L. at 71?

LEMAY / ARNALL
IIn my files Samuel Burris Lemay married Sally Arnall in Hanover Co. in 1820 and
he also died there in 1843. However as he was born circa. 1765 in Goochland Co,
son of Samuel Lemay, he was married late in life. I'd like to know of any other
marriages by him or other Lemays. Sally was daughter of Henry Arnall.

WEST / FIKE
I am seeking information on the ancestry of a family of Wests which probably
resided in the portion of Hanover County that eventually became Louisa County,
VA. Specifically, I am researching the lines of William West (1752-1842), who
was probably a native of the Hanover/Louisa area, his brother, James West
(1756-1811) of the same approximate area, and Amos West (1766-1819), who was
born in Green Springs, Louisa County, VA. Other siblings include Leonard West
(1760-1842) of Granville County, NC, Richard West (1764) supposedly from Louisa
County, VA, and Agness West (1762-1842) of the VA/NC border. Amos' father, whose
name is presently unknown, was a wealthy Virginia planter and merchant. His
grandmother was an English lady of noble descent. The only singular piece of
information relating to these parents is that they died early deaths, and their
children were reared by a maiden aunt, Miss Lucy Fike, of Orange County, NC. She
is supposedly the daughter of John Thomas and Elizabeth Fike of Hanover County,
VA. Does anyone have any knowledge of these families? I would greatly appreciate
any information and would gladly expound upon what is written here for those
interested. bmwest@usit.net Ben

ANTHONY / DIGGS / KEEN / PRICE
I am looking for the parents of Elizabeth Price Anthony who m. John Diggs Feb.
1813 in Louisa Co., VA. Marr. Reg. Vol. 1, p. 151. Nathaniel Anthony, Jr. was
surety, and Lewis Anthony was one of the three witnesses. What relationship were
Nathaniel and Lewis to Elizabeth (Betsy)? She was 61 yrs. old in the 1850 U.S.
Census, Louisa Co., VA. She died 14 Oct. in her "66th year," (probably
1855--her obituary did not give the year of death).
There is a marriage record for Nathaniel Anthony and Nancy Keen at Louisa
County, Virginia 22 October 1789, p. 47. I have been told that Nathaniel Anthony
and a Miss Farmer were Elizabeth's parents--no documentation was given.
Does anyone know the children of Nathaniel and Nancy and/or the children of
Nathaniel and Miss Farmer? Does anyone have a record of Elizabeth Price
Anthony in their Anthony records?
I am also interested in Price as her middle name. This family is noted for using
a mother's or grandmother's maiden name as the first two names of a new
daughter. I feel that there is an Elizabeth Price in her ancestry. Can anyone
identify her parents and grandparents? Family oral history is that the family
came from Hanover Co., VA. It may have been both the Anthony and Diggs families
who came from that area or only one. The Diggs' family was in Louisa Co. for the
birth of John and maybe for his father,Thomas. normad@intrex.net Norma

FORD / ENGLAND /WRENCH
My 3rd great-grandfather was John Ford Sr., b. 1762 in Albermarle County, Va. He
married Elizabeth England in April 1785 and they move to Eastern Tenn. by
1801/02. His parents were supposedly living Hanover Co., VA. at one time; also
some of his siblings, names unknown, may have remained in the Hanover County
area. Some names of men who may be his father were Timothy W. Ford , Tandy
(Lewis) Ford , Bartlett, William, and John Ford , but nothing else to go on.
John Ford Sr. received a Rev. War pension for his service. Will share any data I
have. gfordellman@tyler.net Glynda
