Index To Gloucester County Surveyor's Book
This index to
the Gloucester County Surveyor's Book (1733-1806) was compiled
as part of an early records survey sponsored by the Gloucester
county Historical and Bicentennial Committee in 1976. It is an
index of names appearing on the plats and in the surveyors' explanations.
An asterisk after a page number indicates that a person was a
principle owner of the land surveyed, or a principle in a dispute
over the land. Where land disputes are involved, the defendant
is indicated by a (D) after his name, the plaintiff by a (P).
Alternative spellings of names appear in parentheses beside the
first entry of the name, and maiden names of married women inheriting
land are supplied in parentheses where possible. The name of
the parish in which the survey was made is listed when the information
appears on the plat. Likewise, the date is listed when it appears
on a plat. In cases where the date is missing, the name of the
surveyor who did the work appears in the date column. A list
of surveyors with their dates of service appears at the end of
this index.
