Joshua Singleton applied for pension in Gloucester
on Aug. 6, 1832, attested that he entered service "at an
early period of the Revolution as Lieutenant in the State Navy
under Capt. Travis who commanded the galley Manly. He was
then turn over to galley Henry, commanded Capt. Tomkies,
then to the ship Dragon, commanded by Capt. Markham. He
served on board of fleet ship as Lieutenant during his command,
when he (Capt. Markham) quitted (sic). He commanded "til
the crew were discharged. He never resigned his commission and
was in possession of it many years after the war. He knows not
what became of it. It was either lost or mislaid....." /s/
Joshua Singleton
Joshua Singleton was allowed pension on his application
executed Aug. 6, 1832, at which time he was about 87 years old
and was living in Gloucester Co., Virginia. He died Oct. 22, 1833,
leaving no widow. George W. Singleton stated in 1880 that he was
the grandson of Joshua Singleton; no further family.

Joshua Singleton, Gloucester Co., d. Oct. 22, 1833,
without leaving widow as legit. heir. Will was duly proved and
recorded, but the executor named in will not qualifying. In his
will he gave to George Green and Clarissa Green 15 acres of land;
to William Green, the loan of two Negroes; balance of estate to
nephew Richard Singleton.
