Kemp Hudgins, d. 1797, Mathews Co. On Oct. 8, 1835,
his widow, Joice Hudgins, age 78 appeared in Mathews Co., to give
an affidavit for widow's Rev. War pension. She stated that her
late husband had entered service in 1776 as a private in the militia
under Capt. Josiah Foster and continued to serve until the end
of the war. He. m. in 1777 Joice (or Joicey) Minter. In Feb. 1779
their eldest (?) child Elizabeth was born; afterwards several
other children. Pension application W 19842, Va. (National Archives).
In this same file is a deposition made by Mathias Gayle and John
Christian, dated March 13, 1837, in which they stated they served
in the militia with Kemp Hudgins at New Point, Gloucester C. H.
and other places.
