An Indenture, made this seventh day of March, in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and forty five, between Robert Bishop and Catharine C. Bishop, his wife of the first part, and William Bishop of the other part, all of the County of Dinwiddie, and the State of Virginia. Witnessith: That the said Robert Bishop and Catharine C. his wife for and in consideration of the sum of Eighty five dollars and fifty cents of lawful money of this Commonwealth, to him hand paid by the said William Bishop, at or before the unsealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have given, granted, bargained and sold, aliened, enfeoffed, released and confirmed, and by these presents do give, grant, bargain, sell, alien, enfeoff, release and confirm to the said William Bishop, his heirs and assigns, a certain tract or parcel of land lying and situate in the said County of Dinwiddie containing thirty eight acres and adjoining the lands of the said William Bishop and others, being the same land which was allotted to the said Robert Bishop in the month of February last past, under the will of his father, James Bishop, late of the said County, deceased.--To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land the appurtenances thereunto belonging to him the said William Bishop, his heirs and assigns, to the only proper use and behalf of the said William Bishop his heirs and assigns forever. And the said Robert Bishop and Catharine C. Bishop, his wife for themselves, their heirs, executors and administrators, do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said William Bishop, his heirs and assigns that they the said Robert Bishop and Catharine C. his wife, and their heirs, the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances named unto him the said William Bishop, his heirs and assigns against them the said Robert Bishop and Catharine C. his wife and their heirs and against all manner of persons whomsoever, shall and will by these presents forever warrant and defend. In witness whereof, the said Robert Bishop and Catharine C. his wife have hereunto set their hands and affixed their seals, the day and year above written.
Dinwiddie County, to wit: We William H. Cousins and Benjamin Johnson, justices of the peace in the County aforesaid, in the state of Virginia, do hereby certify that Robert Bishop, a party to a certain deed bearing date on the seventh day of March 1845, and hereunto annexed, personally appeared before us in our County aforesaid and acknowledged the same to be his act and deed, and desired us to certify the said acknowledgement to the Clerk of the County Court of Dinwiddie, in order that the said deed may be recorded. Given under our hands and seals, this 12th day of March 1845.
Dinwiddie County, to wit: We William H. Cousins and Benjamin Johnson, justices of the peace in the County aforesaid, in the state of Virginia, do hereby certify, that Catharine C. Bishop the wife of Robert Bishop, parties to a certain deed bearing date on the seventh day of March 1845, and hereunto annexed, personally appeared before us, in our County aforesaid, and, being examined by us privately and apart from her husband, and having the deed aforesaid fully explained to her, she the said Catharine C. Bishop, acknowledged the same to be her act and deed, and declared that she had willingly signed, sealed and delivered the same, and that she wished not to retract it. Given under our hands and seals this 12th day of March 1845.
At a Court held for Dinwiddie County on the 17th March 1845. This deed of bargain and sale from Robert Bishop and Catharine C. his wife to William Bishop was presented in court, and with the certificates annexed, ordered to be recorded.
