Virginia Mays Dalton Jacobs Altavista, Campbell County, Virginia Virginia Mays Dalton Jacobs, 83, of Altavista, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born March 2, 1925, in Pittsylvania County, she was the oldest of eight children born to the late Claude Swanson Mays and Addie Florence Jacobs Mays. Mrs. Jacobs was twice married first to the late, Carlton Dalton Sr. and then to the late, Thurman Jacobs. She was predeceased by a daughter, Rita Faye Dalton; one sister, Mary Lou Clay; three brothers, George (Red) Mays Sr., William (Bill) Mays and Herman (Dick) Mays. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights, enjoyed traveling and was a home maker. She is survived by one son, Carl Dalton and wife, Vickie of Vancouver, Wash.; one step-daughter, Brenda Roup of Bowie, Md.; one brother, Frank (Buck) Mays and wife, Christine, of Gretna; two sisters, Peggy Faris of Gretna and Adell Adams and husband, Harold, of Gretna. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at the Colbert-Moran Chapel by the Rev. Barry Cundiff. Burial followed in Gretna Burial Park.
