Johnnie Sue Compton Ringgold, Pittsylvania County, Virginia Mrs. Johnnie Sue Dalton Compton, 78, of 449 Little Creek Road, went home to be with her Lord on Friday night, Jan. 18, 2008. She died in Danville Regional Medical Center; she had been in declining health for the last five years, and a patient in the hospital for one day. Born Aug. 8, 1928, in the Callands community of Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of the late Carter "Popeye" DALTON and the late Mae Parker Dalton. Mrs. Compton had lived most of her life in Pittsylvania County, and she had moved to the Ringgold community in 1962. She retired from the research division of Dan River Inc. Mrs. Compton loved to play bingo and bowl in her younger years. She was a member of Community Baptist Church on Iris Lane. She married Otha James Compton on April 3, 1951; he died July 17, 2004. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie C. Wiles and husband, Raymond, of Pelham, N.C., and Tina C. Burdette and husband, Benny, of Danville; a son, Ronald J. Compton, of Providence, N.C.; two sisters, Ruby D. Adkins and Irene D. Gunnell, both of Gretna; and two grandchildren, Johnny Burdette and Christy Burdette. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Michael C. Compton; daughter-in-law, Annette Morris Compton; a brother, Ray Dalton; a sister, Lillian D. Gunnell; and a grandchild, Kellie Compton. The funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 21 at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. James Albert and the Rev. Sammy Edwards officiating. Interment was in Floral Hills Memory Gardens. (Danville Register & Bee 1/20/2008)
