Notes from Mrs. Berkeley G. Calfee of Culpeper:

R. M. D. F. was Rebecca Margaretta Diana Finley Porter who was the widow of William Stone when she married Richard R. Farish and was called "Stone"

My grandfather, Archibald Magill Green, was left a young widower on the death of his first wife, Margaret Faish, and several years later wanted to marry his attractive Sister-in-law, Eleanor Finley Farish, but was forbidden by the old English law. Is friends at the legislature had it repealed. The couple married in Washington and lived for a year in Ky untli the law was repealed, then returned to Va. Archibald was later in the consular service and was serving as Consul at Galveston, Tx when he contracted yellow fever and died there.

Windsor, a showplace of Culpeper co in its day, was established by William Porter, a wealthy resident of Fredericksburg, who sought this higher country on account of health. The gardens were the most elaborate and beautiful in Va, it is said, being extensive and embellished with many rare shrubs, trees and plants imported from Scotland.

Liberty Hall, which burned just prior to the War Between the State, had been in the Green family since 1710. The house was on the order of George Mason's Gunston Hall. Four large rooms on a floor and a very large hall running through.
