DEED: May 15, 1792 Richardson HARRIS to James LYLE
The Commonwealth of Virginia to David PATTERSON, William McKINSIE and Thomas RAWLEY Gent. ............whereas Richarson HARRIS and Mary his Wife by their certain ...........of bargain and sale .......date the 2nd day of January 1792................unto James LYLE the fee simple estate of an in thirty five and one half acres of Land with the appurtenances, lying and being in the Parish of Manchester in the County of Chesterfield and whereas the said Mary cannot conveniently travel to our County Court of Chesterfield aforesaid to make acknowledgment of the said conveyance. Therefore we do give unto you or two or more of you power to received the acknowledgment which the said Mary shall be willing to make before you of the conveyance contained in the said Indenture which is hereunto annexed and we therefore command you that you personally go to the said Mary and examine her privily and apart from the said Richardson her husband whether she doth the same fully and voluntarily ........his possession or threats and whether she .......the same should be Recorded in our said County Court. And when you have received her acknowledgment and examined her as aforesaid that you .....and openly certify .......in our said County Court under your seals..........this writ .........Thomas WATKINS CLK of our said County, the 15th day of May 1792 and in the 16th year of this commonwealth.

Pursuant to the Commission ......the said Mary came before us and relinquished her right of dower to Land contained in the deed annexed. The same Mary separate and apart from her husband Richardson .....the relinquishment is freely and voluntarily .................said Deed be admitted to Record. Given under our hands this 21 June 1792.
