MARRIAGE BOND BENJAMIN COX & SUSANAH NORTH
CHARLOTTE CO., VA  1790
Know all Men by these presents that We Benjamin Cox and Wm Smith are held & 
firmly bound unto Beverly Randolph esquire Governor of the Common Wealth of 
Virginia in the sum of Fifty pounds Current Money, to Which payment will & 
Freely to be made to our said Governor & his Successor for the use of the 
Common Wealth, we bind ourselves Our heirs &c. firmly by these presents 
sealed with our seals & Dated this 26th day of February 1790
The Condition of this obligation is such that Whereas there is a Marriage 
Suddenly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Benjamin Cox and 
Susanah North Daughter of Thomas North
If therefore there be no lawful Cause to obstruct the same then this 
obligation to be Void else to Remain in full force & Virtue

MARRIAGE BOND THOMAS COX & REBACCAH JOHNSTON
CHARLOTTE CO., VA  1783
Know all men by these presents that we Thomas Cox and William Boulden are 
held and firmly bound unto the Governor of the Common Wealth of Virginia in 
the sum of fifty pounds Current Money, To which payment well and truly to be 
made to our said Governor and his heirs firmly by these presents sealed with 
our seals and date this first day of September 1783
The Condition of the above obligation is such that , whereas there is a 
Marriage suddenly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Thomas 
Cox and Rebaccah Johnston of the County aforesaid, if therefore there be no 
Lawful Cause to obstruct the same, then this obligation to be void else to 
remain of force and Virtue

Note: Rebaccah was spelled with two "a's". Bouldin/Boulden appeared to be 
spelled both ways.

NOTE: "1702" for the below bond appears to be an error.  It is believed the

MARRIAGE BOND JESSE COX & ELIZABETH FARLEY CHARLOTTE CO., VA 1702 Know all men by these Presents That We Jesse Cox & James Watkins are held and firmly bound unto the Governor of the Common Wealth of Virginia in the Sum of fifty pounds Current Money. To which payment well and truly to be made to our Said Governor and his Successors for the use of the Common Wealth. We bind ourselves and our heirs firmly by these presents, Sealed with our Seal and date this 4th day of November 1702 The Condition of the above obligation is Such that Whereas there is a Marriage Suddenly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Jesse Cox and Elizabeth Farley of the County aforesaid, if therefore there e no Lawful Cause to Obstruct the Same Then this obligation to be Void Else to remain of fore & Virtue Jesse Cox (Seal) Signed & Sealed in presence Ja Watkins (Seal Jacob Morton Note: Not sure of letters before Watkins signature.

MARRIAGE BOND WILLIAM COX & SALLY STEMBRIDGE
CHARLOTTE CO., VA  179_
Know all Men by these presents that We William Cox & Herr/Hern Reese are held 
firmly bound unto Henry Lee Esq Governor of the Common Wealth of Virginia in 
the Sum of Fifty pound Current Money to which payment well and Truly to be 
made to our said Governor and his Successors for the use of the Common Wealth 
we bind ourselves our heirs & firmly by the presents Sealed with our Seals 
and Dated the 23 (then 3 is crossed out and a 2 is written in) day of July 
179_
The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is Marriage 
Suddenly Intended to be Solemnized between the above bound William Cox & 
Sally Stembridge
If therefore there be no lawful Cause to obstruct the same then the 
obligation to be Void else to remain of full force & Virtue his

MARRIAGE BOND HENRY COX & ANN MADISON
CHARLOTTE CO., VA  1773
Know all men by these presents that We Henry Cox & Roger Madison of Charlotte 
County are held and firmly bound unto our Sovereign Lord King George the 
third &c. in the full & Just sum of Fifty pounds Current money to be paid to 
our said lord the King his Heirs & Successors to which payment well & Truly 
to be made We do bind ourselves Jointly & Severally our Joint & Several Heirs 
Exors & Admins firmly but these presents Sealed with our Seals & Date this 5th 
day of April  1773
The Condition of the above obligation is such that Whereas there is a 
Marriage Suddenly intended to be Solemnized Between the above bound Henry Cox 
and Ann Madison (Spinster) of the said County Now if there be no lawful cause 
to obstruct the said Marriage then this Obligation to be void other wise to 
remain in full force & Virtue

Note: There is controversy over Henry COX'S first name being WILLIAM due to a 
bad copy of marriage bond. There is a clear scanned in copy at 
http://Freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~coxcuz . Roger MADISON was the 
father of Ann MADISON. Ann's mother was Elizabeth TALIAFERRO.

MARRIAGE BOND JOSIAH JACKSON & ELIZABETH MADISON
CHARLOTTE CO., VA  1790
Know all men by these presents that We Josiah Jackson & Thomas Pettus and 
held & firmly bound unto Beverly Randolph Esquire Governor of the Common 
Wealth of Virginia in the sum of Fifty pounds Current Money, to which 
payment________ to be made to our said Governor &his Successors for the use 
of the Common Wealth, we bind ourselves & our heirs &c. firmly by these 
presents sealed with our seals & Dated this 30 day of March 1790
The Condition f this obligation is such that whereas there is a Marriage 
Suddenly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Josiah Jackson & 
Elizabeth Madison Daughter of Henry Madison 
If therefore there be no lawful cause to obstruct the same then this 
obligation to be Void else to remain in full force & Virtue

held and firmly bound unto the Governor of the Common Wealth of Virginia in 
the sum of fifty pounds Current Money; To which payment well and truly to be 
made to our said Governor and his Successors for the use of the Common Wealth 
we bind ourselves and ____ firmly by these presents, sealed with our Seals 
and dated this 3rd day of December 1783
The Condition of the above obligation is such, that Whereas there s a 
Marriage suddenly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Thomas 
Pettus and Polly Madison. Daughter of Henry Madison of the County aforesaid 
___________________to obstruct the same then the above __ to be Void, __ to 
remain of force and Virtue

MARRIAGE BOND OF HENRY MADISON/MADDISON & ELIZABETH 
CHARLOTTE CO., VA  18__
Know all men by them presents that We Henry Madison and Nathan Harvey 
esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in one hundred and fifty 
dollars; to which payment well and truly to be made to the said John Tylor 
and his successors, to the use of the Commonwealth we bind ourselves, our 
heirs, &c. firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals and dated this 9th 
day of July 18__
The Condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas there is a 
marriage intended to be solemnized between the said Henry Madison and 
Elizabeth White___and Nathan Harvey guardian of the said Elizabeth Personally 
gave his ___ to her marriage if therefore there be no lawful cause to 
obstruct the same, then this obligation to void, else to remain of force and

Know all men by these Presents that we Robert Venable and Thomas Pettus are 
held and firmly bound unto the Governor of the Common wealth of Virginia in 
the sum of fifty pounds current Money, to which payment well and truly to be 
made to our said Governor and his Successors for the use of he Commonwealth 
we bind our selves and our Heirs firmly by these presents sealed with our 
seals and dated this 14th day of December 1786
The Condition of this obligation is such that whereas there is a Marriage 
Suddenly intended to be Solemnized between the above bound Robert Venable and 
Sally Madison Daughter of Henry Madison If therefore there be no lawful cause 
to Obstruct the same the this obligation to be void else to remain of force 
and Virtue
