Located very near the Lunenburg County line, Haleysburg was mentioned as early as 1818, on a mail route from Petersburg, VA to Halifax Courthouse, VA, a distance of one hundred twenty-three miles. (Bulletin of The Virginia State Library V. X5,p.54.) Haleysburg was several miles south of the later post office and community, Ontario.
