Locust Grove

Ailsworth, Timothy S. Charlotte County, Rich Indeed : 1979 , pp 390, 391 describes Locust Grove:

"Located .1 mile east of State Route 637, .16 mile southwest of the Town of Drakes Branch.

"This house is on an original land grant made to Stephen Bedford in 1751. The first house burned in 1841, and the present house was built soon afterward. Lewis Skidmore, who married the great granddaughter of Stephen Bedford, built the second home. The house is a two-store frame home. Later additions have made it so that every main room in the house opens onto a porch."

In 1979 the house was owned by Mrs. D. Q. Eggleston. In 2005 the house is owned by Joseph and Betty Swann.
