The will, dated 1 Sept. 1852, names, among legatees: "2ndly I will to my four unmarried sons
now surviving namely Theodoric M., William T., Erasmus F., and Benjamin A. Roberts all
the property I have heretofore given them and one sixth part each of the remainder of my
estate at my decease after the foregoing provisions the first has been complied with to
them and to their heirs forever."
Observation of the marriage and census records of Charlotte, Lunenburg and Mecklenburg
counties causes me to believe the wording "unmarried sons" is incorrect. Possibly the will
was copied from the draft of an older will, or an error occurred when the will was copied
into the will book.
The will shows that son Joseph H. and grandson Francis G. Roberts had received their shares
and would not share in the estate at death. Thus, the "1/6" applied to each of the remaining
children, and indicates that grandson Francis G. Roberts was not a child of John Roberts, or
any of those named.
I have outlined the family as I see it, and included notes I have collected. I am not a
Roberts researcher and welcome verifications, corrections and additions. My interest in the family
of Francis Roberts has been John Roberts and the Gregory marriage (my extended family), and those

Enclosed in Metal fence with periwinkle, several graves marked with field rocks.
Munsey Moore wrote travel down hwy 600 east of Chase City to Morris trailer park.
Ask for home of Rachael Goode. Cemetery extremely remote. He wrote to refer to "unknown cemetery"
which is about 100 yds southeast of Roberts cemetery, described as a "rock wall and periwinkle,
no tombstones, near old chimney."
