Michael Roberts Richard Evans and John Carlos are held and firmly bound unto our
Souvereign Lord King George the Third, in the sum of Four hundred & fourteen
Thousand and sixty eight pounds of Tobacco, 25 Feby. 1765, Condition of this
Obligation is that if Christopher Mason shall well & truly collect and receive
all Sums of Tobacco that are Laid and Assessed on the Titheable persons in the
County of Brunswick by the Act of Assembly passed at the Last Session of
Assembly as also by the Court of the said County on the 31st Day of Decmr. last
past & shall well & Truly pay the same to such persons and in such manner as is

Sovereign Lord King George the Third, in the sum of Five Hundred pounds, to
which paiment well and Truly to be made to our said Sovereign, 25 Febry. 1765,
Condition of ye Obligation is such that whereas Christopher Mason is Constituted
and Appointed Sheriff of the County of Brunswick During Pleasure by Commission
from the Governor under the seal of the Colony Dated the Eighteenth Day of
February 1765, if said Christopher Mason shall well and truly Collect all Quit
Rents fines Forfiturs & Amersiments acruing or becoming Due to his Majestye in
the said county and shall duly account for and pay the same to his officers of
his Majesty's Revenue for the time being on or before the second Tuesday in June
Annually and shall in all other things and Faithfully Execute the said Office of
a Sheriff during his Continuance therein then the Above Obligation is to be void

Money to which paiment to be made to our Sovereign Lord the King, we bind
ourselves, 25 Febry 1765, Condition of ye above obligation is such that whereas
Christoper Mason is Constituted and Appointed Sherif of the County of Brunswick
During Pleasure by Commission from the Governor under the seal of the Colony
dated 18 February 1765, if therefore Christopher Mason shall well and truly
collect & receive all officens Fees & Dues put into his hands to collect and
duly account for and pay the same to the Officers to whom such fees are due, at
such times as are prescribed and limited by law and shall well and truly execute
and due return make of all Process and Precepts to him directed and pay and
satisfy all sums of money and tobacco by him received by virtue of any such
process to the person or persons to whome the same are due, and in all other
things shall truly and faithfully perform the said office of Sheriff during the

Indenture made 1 August 1764, betw. Lewelling Jones of Brunswick and Peter
Randolph Bland of the Town of Blandford of the other part, for five Hundred
pounds, sells to the said Peter Randolph Bland, twenty slaves namely Tony,
Estham, Matt, Frank, Jane, Moll, Dilse, Anniky, Bess, Tom, Marget, Frank,
Mulattoe, Josua, Ned, Robin, Tom Mulattoe, Pheby, Peter Rachel, Isham, and their

I, Robert Mitchell of Dinwiddie County am held and stand firmly bound unto
Thomas Lanier of Brunswick County in the just and full sum of One Thousand
Pounds, to be paid unto the said Thomas Lanier, dated 18 February 1765.
Condition of obligation is that if the above Robert Mitchell shall upon the
above Thomas Lanier dismissing a suit in Chancery Commenced against the said
Robert Mitchell in the County of Dinwiddie deliver up his whole right title
claim and property to the following slaves viz: Lucy Peter Lucy and Umphry and
also the slaves that are the Right of Dower of Sarah Rachell? Mother of the said
Robert Mitchell viz. Fanny Tony Agge late Charles Arter and also shall pay his
own costs in the suit in Chancery then the above obligation to be void. Signed

Indenture made 28 January 1765 between John Hunt of Brunswick County and Richard
Roper of same, for sixteen pounds, sells to Richard Roper one certain tract or
parcel of Land containing one hundred & forty acres, Scituate lying and being in
the Parrish and County aforesaid & on the North side of Rocky Run and Bounded as
followeth, Beginning at the Rocky Run as aforesaid at the Mouth Called the
Tarkill Branch from thence up the said Branch to a Corner from thence along a
line of new marked Trees to a Corner joyning Adam Simms's line from thence along
the said Simms line to the aforesaid Rocky Run from thence Down the said Rocky

Indenture dated 5 Decemr. 1764, betw. Henry Morris of Saint Andrews Parish in
Brunswick County, and Lewis Brown of same, for divers good causes and
consideration but more especially for consideration of the sum and quantity of
four thousand weight of Inspected Tobacco, sell unto the said Lewis Brown, one
certain Tract or parcell of land scituate lying and being in the County of
Brunswick and adjoyning the said Browns Land and the land of Richardson Stith
and the said Morris containing by Estamation one Hundred and Sixty acres, it
being part of a larger tract of land formerly granted to the said Henry Morris
by Letters patent bearing date at Wmsburgh the twelfth day of January 1746, the
said one Hundred & sixty acres being bounded as followeth, Beginning at the
Country Road thence Runing along the said Browns line to Richardson's Line
thence along Richardson's line to Stiths the said Richardson's and the said
Morris's Corner thence along Stiths line to the Reedy Branch which divides the
said Morris's land from Baileys thence Down the Reedy branch crossing the Cool
spring branch to Bailys line at the Road aforesaid thence Down the Road to the

Parish, Brunswick County and Peter Twitty his son of same, for Naturall Love and
Affection, and five pounds, sell to Peter Twitty, one certain tract or parcell
of land containing Four Hundred acres, it being part of a Larger Tract lying and
being in the County of Brunswick on the North Side of Meherrin River & bounded
as follows Begining at the mouth of Rattle Snake Branch on Briery Creek runing
up the sd. Branch as it Meanders to Russells Path, from thence to the Head of
the Bull Branch on Williams's Line thence down the branch to Edmund Ruffins
Line, thence along the sd. Ruffins Line to Jno. Greshams Line thence along the
said Greshams Line to John Johnsons Line, thence along the said Johnsons Line to
Brierey Creek, thence across the sd. Creek to Richard Hagoods Corner White Oak
on James Thorntons Line, thence along the sd. Thorntons Line to a Corner Red Oak

Indenture made 6 January 1765, between Thomas Twitty Senr. of Brunswick County
and George Twitty his son of same County and parish of Saint Andrews, for
Natural Love & Affection and five pounds, sells to George Twitty, one Certain
Tract or parcell of Land lying and being in the County of Brunswick on the North
Side of Meherrin River it being all that Tract or parcell of Land Bought of John
Rivers whereon I now Live & Bounded as follows Beginning on Meherrin River at
John Threadgills line Runing along the said line to the aforesaid River thence
Down the said River to the Beginning for one Hundred & eighty one acres. Signed

Indenture made 22 October 1764, between Zachariah Simms of Saint Andres parish,
Brunswick County, and Thomas Lyall of same County, Meherrin Parish, that the
said Zachariah Simms and wife, for twenty five pounds, sell to Thomas Lyall, one
certain tract or parcell of Land, lying and being on the South ____ of Meherrin
River upon the pole Bridge Branch in Brunswick County, containing 150 acres, it
being part or parcel of a Tract of Land formerly Granted by patent to George
Simms decd. and Left by will to the said Zachariah Simms, the said 150 acres
being bounded as followeth, Beginning at a Turky (sic) Oak at the head of the
pole Bridge Branch thence Runing a west Corse (sic) to two small Red oak
sapplins upon the Cart path and out the said Cart path as the Line goes to a
Corner White Oak thence Runing a East Course, Crossing the Westart Road to a
Black Jack upon Wars Line thence along the said line to a corner pine thence
East as it meanders to a white Oake upon the said pole Bridge Branch thence up

Indenture made 25 February 1765, between Thomas Harrison of Brunswick and Parish
of Saint Andrews and Edward Smith of Sussex County, for one Hundred & fifty
pounds, sell to Edward Smith, on Certain Tract or parcell of Land Scituate Lying
& being in the County of Brunswick & on the South Side of the Three Creeks,
Containing Two Hundred Acres, bounded by the Lines as follows Beginning at a red
Oak at the side of the Three Creeks from thence to a Mulberry tree fore & aft
from thence to a persimmon tree from thence to a pine fore & aft from thence to
the Spring branch to a butterwood from thence up the Varrious Courses of the Run
of the said Branch to Mr. William Allens Line from thence turns Down the said
Allens line to a Corner Hickory on John Maclins line thence along the said
Maclins line to John Willis's line thence along the said Willis's line down to
the Three Creeks aforesaid thence up the various Corses (sic) of the Run of the

Indenture made day of 1765, between Mason Bishop of Brunswick County and Joseph
Bishop of same, for Thirty pounds, sells to Joseph Bishop, all that Seat Tract
or parcell of Land Scituate lying & being in the County of Brunswick, containing
one Hundred & Twenty acres, and bounded as followeth, Beginning at a spanish Oak
in the Left hand of the said Mason Bishops Race paths then along a new line of
marked trees to a Corner white Oak at the head of a Little branch then Down the
same to the Head of a Large Branch thence down the same to Joell Parrishs Corner
popler in the said Branch then down the said branch to John Parrishs line and up
the said parrishs line to a corner red oak then along a Line of marked trees by
the Race paths to a red oak at the foot of the Race paths Isaac Bishops line.

Isaac Bishop of same, for Twenty pounds, sells unto Isaac Bishop, all that Seat
Tract or parcell of Land scituate Lying & being in the County of Brunswick
Containing one Hundred & fifty acres, and bounded as follows: Beginning at a red
oak in John Parrishs Line thence along Parrish Line to Mason Bishops Spring
branch then along Jos: Parrishs Line to a corner Red oak thence a Straight Line
of markt Trees to a Corner Gum in a branch uupon the said Joseph Parrishs line
then down the branch to the Main branch to the Mouth of the Little branch then

County of Brunswick Containing by Estamation one Hundred & Twenty five Acres, it
being part of a Tract of Land Thomas Bull the Twelfth day of January one
Thousand Seven Hundred and forty six and bounded as followeth: Beginning at a
branch thence a Strait Course to a Croner Shrub White Oak thence South sixty Six
degrees West ninty eight poles to Ralph Jacksons line thence along his Line
North Seven degrees Est (sic) Eighty poles to his Corner red oak thence along
the said Line East four degrees West Seventy Six poles to his Corner red oak
thence along the said Jacksons line fifty two Degrees west fifty four poles to
the Ready Creek thence up the said Creek as it mainders (sic) to the Beginnig

of Brunswick County and Edward Sanders of Lancaster County, for five pounds,
sells to Edward Sanders, One Tract or parcell of Land lying and being in the
County of Brunswick Containing by Estamation One Hundred & Twenty five Acres it
being part of a Tracct of Land Granted Thomas Bull in the Year one Thousand
Seven Hundred & forty six and boudned as followeth: Beginning at the Mouth of a
great Branch thence up the sd. Branch to a white on (sic) the same thence South
Eighty Degrees East One Hundred & seventy two poles to a white Oak thence a
Straight Course to a branch thence down the said Branch to the Creek thence up

sells to Henry Fort, One Certain Tract or parcell of Land Containing four
Hundred Acres, lying and being inthe County of Brunswick aforesaid and bounded
as followeth: Beginning at Rawlings Corner white Oak on a branch thence along
his line South Thirty Six Degrees East forty four poles to his Corner red oak
thence South Seventy one? degrees West One hundred & fifty four poles to his
Corner pine on a Road thence along the said Road Eastwardly Two Hundred & Eighty
two poles to a black Jack on the same thence North fourteen Degrees East Two
Hundred & thirty nine poles to a small Red oak in a Meadow thence North Seventy
Six Degrees West sixty four poles to a Shrub White Oak thence South Sixty four
degrees west Eighty poles to a forked white Oak on a branch thence down the said
Branch as it meanders to the first Station formerly Granted the said Robert
Proctor by Letters patent bearing Date at Wmsburgh in the year of our Lord One

I Lemuel Lanaier (Lanier in margin) of Mehrrin Parish, Brunswick County, for One
Hundred & seventy five pounds paid by David Peeples of same, sell to David
Peeples Four (sic) Negros Hector Tony & Aggy, one Deskk Two feather beds &
furnature, the 20 day of June 1764. Signed Lemuel Lanier. Witnesses: David

I Lemuel Lanier of Meherrin Parish and Brunswick County, for Natural Love and
Affection which I have and do bear to my Daughters Molly Lanier and Sally Lanier
and also for their advancement in this world give unto Jehu Peeples of said
County which said Jehu is grandfather to the said Molly and Sally, a certain
female Slave Named Beck and also a female Child named Cate and Daughter of the
said Beck, and their future increase, in trust that the hire labour and profit
of the said Slaves Beck & Cate and their Increase shall be used paid out and
Expended by him the said Jehu for and towards the maintenance and Education of
the said Molly and Sally Lanier until such time as they or either of them shall
attain the age of Twenty one years or be married and also that when they or
either of them shall arive to such age or be married that he the said Jehu
Peeples shall cause a Reasonable & Equitable Division of the said Slaves to be
made between the said Molly and Sally. In case either of my said Daughters Molly
and Sally Lanier should die before they arive to such age or Marriage that then
the said Negroes Beck and Cate and their Increas are to pass and go to the

I Mark Harwell of Sussex County, for the Love good will & Affection that I have
and do bear unto my son Ishmael Harwell of Brunswick and for his advancement and
preferment in this World, give to the said Ishmael Harwell, One Certain Tract or
parcell of land lying Scituate in the County of Brunswick Containing by
Estamation Three Hundred & fifty one Acres, it is the Tract of Land I Purchased
of John Roberson and whereon my said son Ishmael Harwell now lives and is
bounded thus Beginning at a White Oake on William Gowers Branch thence Down the
said Branch to a Chestnut Oak thence along Capt. Frederick Maclins Line to
Joseph Carters Line thence along the said Carters line to a branch on Kettle

Robert Howard of same, for One Hundred and fifty pounds, sells to Robert Howard,
Two Certain Tracts of Land scituate and being in the County of Brunswick and
Containing Two Hundred Acres; the One Containing One Hundred acres being
formerly Granted to George Jordin by Patent baring Date the fifth Day of
September One Thousand Seven Hundred Twenty Three since became in vested to the
said Turner and bounded as followeth: Beginning at a Spanish Oak on the west
side of the Little Swamp of Fountains Creek thence North Sixty five Degrees West
Sixty one pole to a Gum in a bottom thence South west fifty five pole to a pine
thence South Sixty degrees west Sixty pole to a Red Oak then South Thirty
Degrees East Seventy four pole to a pine then East Eighty pole to a Gum by the
said of the Little swamp aforesaid and Down the Various Courses of the Run of
the said Swamp to the Beginning; the other being part of Large Tract of Land
surveyed by Colonel Allen and since became Envested to the said Turner and

runing out a Southwest Course along the forementioned line of the Other Tract

Horton of Sussex County, sell to Amos Horton, one Certain Messuage and Tract of
Land Scituate lying and being in the County of Brunswick on the North Side of
fountains Creek butted & Bounded as followeth: Beginning at a Gum thence North
Thirteen Degrees East one Hundred and fourteen Chains to a Hickory Saplin thence
South seventy one Degrees East twenty two Chain to a red oak and a Hickory on
the County Line thence along the County South One Hundred & Eight chains to two
large white oaks at the sid of the Low Grounds of the said Creek thence South
forty seven degrees west thirteen Chain to a White Oak saplin thence North eight
three degrees West thirty two Chains to the low grounds thence along the low
grounds to a gum thence north fifty Degrees West Along the Swamp to the

Two pounds, paid by William Dewberry of same Parish and County, planter, sell to
William Dewberry one Negro Man Slave named Tom, one white mare and her Increase
branded with three Dotts, one Bridle and Sadle and my Crop that is now Growing
consisting of Corn & Tobo, In Trust, that if I, John Dewberry shall well and
truly pay to the said William dewberry, the full and just sum of twenty two
pounds, at or upon the tenth day of June 1766 with lawfull interest thereon then
this present writing is to be void, dated this X day of August MDCCLXIV. Signed

& Sussex County, and George Booth of same, for four hundred pounds, sells to
George Booth, one Tract or parcell of Land lying and being in the County of
Brunswick Containing Three Hundred and Eighty Nine Acres and formerly granted by
patent bearing Date the Thirty first Day of May, 1753 unto David Williams and
bounded as follows: Beginning at Cornelius Cargills Corner on the Beaverpond
Creek thence along his line north thirty five degrees East three Hundred and
twenty poles to a small oak thence North Thirty four degrees East one Hundred
and Seventy nine poles to a shrub white oak thence North forty Six degrees West
two Hundred & fifty four poles to a popler on the Beaver pond Creek aforesaid
thence Down the said Creek according to the Several Meanders theof (sic) to the

and George Booth of Sussex County, for One Hundred pounds, sells to George
Booth, all that Tract or parcell of Land scituate lying and being in the County
of Brunswick and by Estamation One Hundred and Seventy Acres, and bounded as is
mentioned set forth and expressed in a certain deed or Indenture given and
granted unto the said Thomas Flewelling by Richard Berry and recorded in the

Indenture made 30 July 1764, between Kinchen Taylor of Hertford County, North
Carolina, Merchant, and Miles Cary & Henry Taylor of Southampton County, whereas
Miles Cary and Henry Taylor did at the request of the said Knichen Taylor become
bound with him to John Wooddrop of Nansemond County, Merchant, in a bond for
payment of Three Hundred and Eighteen pounds and upward and Interest growing due
thereon and it is but reasonable that the said Miles Cary & Henry Taylor should
be secured from all damage that may arise from their being the said Kinchen
Taylors security, Witnesseth that for securing and saving harmless the said
Miles Cary & Henry Taylor form all damage by means of their being security for
the said Kichen Taylor and also for five shillings, grants to Miles Cary & Henry
Taylor, all that plantation Tract or parcell of Land & premises lying & being in
the County of Brunswick on Roses Creek which the said Kinchen Taylor purchased
of Andrew Troughton Containing by estamation One Thousand Two Hundred acres, and
bounded as in patent granted the said Troughton for the same is Expressed, in
trust to make sale of the said land for the best price that they can and to
apply the money arising from such sale to the paiment of the said bond &
Interest due to the said John Wooddrop and the overplus if any to be paid to the

County, for One Thousand and Ten pounds, sells to William Batte, all that Tract

South side of Nottoway River Containing by Estamation One Thousand & ten acres
Land, and bounded as followeth: Beginning at a beach on Nottoway River at the
foot of Sweeds Bridge thence South 20 East three Hundred and seventy four poles
to three trees Choped inwards on the Old Line thence along the sd Line North
forty five East Thirty four poles to a hickory thence South seventy five East
two Hundred poles to a Live Oak on Chatacre Swamp thence Down the Meanders of
the Run of the said Swamp 522 poles to Nottoway River thence up the Meanders of
the said River five Hundred & Two Poles to the Begining. (the words Elizabeth

Said County of Brunswick Containing by estamation three acres, it is bounded
thus Beginning at several White Oaks Chopted inwards Corner to the said Watson
John Collier and the said Land thence along the said Colliers Line to the mane
Road thence along the Road to where the said Watsons Line crosses the Road
