Last Will and Testament of Charles Floyd

In the name of God Amen. I Charles Floyd of Brunswick County being in resonable health of body but in sound mind and memory thanks be to God, do make this my Last Will & Testament. In primises: my soul I give to God who gave it me and my body to the earth from whence it was taken to be decently buried at the discresion of my executors hereafter to be mentioned.

Item: I lend unto my beloved wife Martha Floyed, negroe man Royal one negroe boy Will one negroe Suce (or Luce) also my stocks of all kinds & household & kitchen furniture during of life or widowhood & after her death or marriage my will & desire is that the above mentioned negroes, stocks & furniture as above mentioned may be equally divided between my children as namely (Vizt) Sally Floyed, Amey Floyed, Wells Floyed & William Floyed to them & their heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my son Drury Floyed five Shillings cash to him & his heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my daughter Patsey Pennington five shilling cash to her & her heirs forever.

I give unto my daughter Phebe Davis five shillings cash to her and her heirs forever.

Item: I give unto my five youngest children all of my outstanding debts when collected to be equally divided betweens & their heirs forever.

Item: My will & desire that my negroe woman Vilet & child by the name of Jame may be sold in order to pay my last debts.

Item: Lastly I noninate & appoint John Davis and Davis Ezell executors to this my Last Will & Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 22 day of December One thousand seven hundred & ninety five.

This Last Will & Testament of Charles Floyed dec. proved by the oaths of Charles Collier & Anne Ezell witnesses thereto & orrdered to be recorded & on the motion of John Davis one of the executors therein named he having made oath thereto according to law & together with Hiram Smith, Benjamin Ivey, Daniel Shelton his securities entered into & acknowledged a bond is the penalty of two thousand pounds with condition as the law directs. Certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate there of in due form liberty being reserved the other executor therein named to join in the said probate when he thinks fit?.
