I am looking for information on the South Mountian (Old Providence) Presbyterian Church. My Ramseys and Blacks may have been members and I would like to know if there is a church history or member registry for the 1740's through the late 1800's. The Blacks & Ramsey's originally belonged to Tinkling Spring but according to the Beverley Manor/Borden Grant map, they lived closer to the South Mountian church. The last child John Ramsey had baptized at Tinkling Spring was Alexander in 1749. As John & his wife had more children, it would be possible he changed churches to one closer to home. Thanks for any help!!

John LEWIS was one of the early settlers of Augusta County around the early 1720's. It is presumed that he had an indentured servant named John NICKELL from Ulster, Ireland. John NICKELL (we think) married one of John LEWIS'S daughters prior to his marrying Barbara MCCOMBE. If anyone has any information or any leads that I could check on this marriage I would greatly appreciate some help. Children from the John NICKELL/LEWIS marriage are: John b 1738, d 1807, m Sarah ERWIN 1760; Thomas b 1740, d 1807, m Jane KING 1760; Elizabeth b 1748, d 1808, m William Daniel CRAIG 1764; Joseph b 1750, d 1829, m Elizabeth FOWLER 1770; Isaac b 1752, d 1839, m Margaret CURRY 1775.

Seeking information on the family of James Kerr, who migrated to Chester/Lancaster County PA probably around 1720-1728. He and his family migrated to Orange (later Augusta) County, VA about 1738, where he purchased land and was listed as one of the first settlers. (Source: The Tinkling Spring, Headwaters of Freedom, History of the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church, Staunton, Augusta County, VA) He was listed in "Kerr's and Kin" by Vincent Kerr as building one of the very first houses in Augusta County. It was said that his house was a very large one, built to accomodate his entire family. In "The Tinkling Spring", it lists early baptisms in the church there and I believe that the children listed below are probably all sons of this James Kerr. All of the children were baptized "in the congregation" of the church, instead of in the outlaying areas, and James Kerr seems to have pre-dated most other Kerr families that migrated to Augusta County by about 8-10 years.
