I am researching Jacob GOLDMAN who died in Augusta County VA, 1750 and his wife Mary Abigale BROWN (BRAUN). Children: John, Jacob, Mary, Henry and possibly Conrad. I am especially interested in the connection between the GOLDMAN family and the families of Charles HART, Fredrick STRENS, Humphrey BAKER, George SUFFORD, Henry SHOFNER, and Charles POWELL. Jacob and Fredrick STERNS came to VA from Penn. or NY ca. 1740-1745. STERNS and BAKER signed Jacob GOLDMAN's will. I have much research about HART and STERNS to share.

A sometime resident of Augusta County in the 1800s was one of my gggrandfathers, Willaim A. Craig (perhaps born in Kentucky), and he married a Catherine C. Via, perhaps on Nov. 30, 1849 in Albemarle Co. Virginia. Their daughter and my great-grandmother, Emma Edmonia Craig, was born July 31, 1856, in Montgomery Co., Missouri, and died April 29, 1929. She lived her adult life in Augusta County near Crimora near Waynesboro. She was married March 28, 1978 to Jacob A. Grove (Dec. 7, 1856-May 19, 1942). I would appreciate any information on my Craig and Via ancestors. My dad has said that his grandmother never talked about her upbringing or past, and no one in the family seems to have much information. Is your William Craig the same one I'm wanting to know more about? Thanks if you have any information to share with me. --Stuart W. Showalter

Hi Berry seekers, I just, very belatedly got around to reading the Chalkley Chronicals that I printed out last Oct. Lo and behold, I have Very good reason to believe that I have connection from Henry BERRY, who had children: Henry, John,Thomas, Sarah (married McCloud), Jane (married Jno. Gladen), Margaret (married Smith), Elizabeth (married McClure), and Rebecca, who evidently had a 'bastard child' when she was 20. I'm taking all of this directly from my printed copy of the Chronicals. I have no idea if there were other children, nor who his wife was, for at the time this was written up, she was evidently already dead. Henry Sr. is declared as coming from New Jersey at the time of the Whiskey rebellion. It is his son John that I believe leads to my line of BERRYs. Anyone out there interested in this line, or have anything on it? Any help very much appreciated, and happy to share. Pat, in Oregon

I am searching the genealogy of John PATRICK who died testate in Augusta Co., VA in 1809. His will was written 7 Feb. 1809 and was proved on 22 May 1809. It names his wife as Ann PATRICK. John PATRICK was the son of Robert PATRICK who died testate in Augusta Co., VA in 1761. Does anybody know the maiden name of Ann, wife and widow of John PATRICK? There is evidence that Ann's maiden name was TURK. I draw this conclusion primarily by the fact that Robert TURK (circa 1695-1772) acquired 1313 acres in Beverley Manor in 1739. He deeded 437 acres (1/3) to his son, Thomas Turk, in 1741. He deeded 437 acres (1/3) to Robert Patrick in 1747. He kept 437 acres from himself. After Robert PATRICK and Robert TURK died, the adjacent property owners were Robert TURK's son, Thomas, TURK, and Robert PATRICK's son, John PATRICK. Robert TURK mentioned a daughter Ann TURK in his will written in 1772. I think that there is some close family connection which caused Robert TURK to deed 1/3 of his land to Robert PATRICK IN 1747.

Am looking for one William KENNEDY who published in Mass. (Boston,Suffolk) intention to mary one Mary BUTLER on Dec. 8, 1762. They did not marry in Mass. and from family memories reported at the end of 19th Century seem to have gone south where they did marry (where?). They were known to have had one of their children in Connecticut but trace can not be found in that state of their ever being there. Some reports direct my attention to Augusta Co., VA. They later on settled in Tryon Co. (NY) at the latest in 1778 when they are recorded as tenants of Sir William Johnson in Kingsland (Philadelphia Bush near Johnstown to be more precise and to be completely accurate as neighbours to one Michael Carman); after being part of the Loyalist resistance and having been in jail at least twice (once in Johnstown and once in Albany), they fled in February 1782 to Montreal, Canada and from there in 1784 to the Gaspé Coast of Quebec where their descendants still live to this day.
