His wife Nancy was born about 1794 and died about 1836. After our male DUNKLE died, Nancy remarried to a William Gragg, Jr. born Augusta County April 15, 1758 (this his second marriage)and moved to Ashe County, NC where Harvey GRAGG (my wife's great grandfather) was born in 1827. Nancy and William may have had three male children born between 1815 and 1820. The 1820 Census should have listed a Male DUNKLE as Head of Household at age 26, with a female at age 26 and perhaps three male children 0 to 9. It is Nancy's last name and parents that I seek. DOACK, DOAK, ROGERS posted by Diana Hermann on Monday, November 16, 1998

The following information was sent to me by a researcher with a book on the history of Tazewell County, VA. Since it also mentioned Augusta County, I thought perhaps someone doing research on that county could provide me with more information: Robert Doack and William Doack were among serveral men who petitioned the County Court of Augusta to alter and admend the old road "leading from Captain Ingles' Ferry to James Davis' on the head of the Holston River . ." Petition was in 1768. In 1768 Robert Doack sewed turnips on Reed Creek, but made no settlment. . . In 1769 the whole section embracing the head waters and sources of the New River, Clinch, Holston, and Powell Rivers were erected into a separate county, and the surveyor was ordered to run the dividing line between Augusta and Botetourt as far as th western waters. Robert Doack was Dr. Thomas Walker's agent for the Wolf Hill Tract . . ." I am trying to find link between these Doacks and a Robert Doak who married Rachel Thompson in Tazewell County in 1801 and then link to Senia Doak who married Gilbert Rogers in in Tazewell County in 1829. Gilbert and Senia Rogers were my grgrgrgrandparents.

I'm doing research on the Balser's and I was wondering if you or someone in your family know of the name Finley BALSER. He married Ellen LUCAS, sometime before 1885. They had several children, one was James William BALSER b.1886 in Augusta Co. Va. Their other children were John, Sam, Charley, George, Calvin, Kate (F), Noel (F) Earl (F). I don't know the true names of the females but this was what I have been told. In my husbands grandfathers OB, the paper had his sisters married names. Do you know of any of these? I'm told one of them was married several times, but I don't know which. Mrs. W.D. WILSON of Waynesboro,Va., Mrs. Dan WOOD of Lynchburg, VA., and Mrs. Howard BALSER (?) of Goshen, Va. This was in 1951 when James died. I think the Balsers moved to Goshen, Va. and then James later moved to live with his aunt and uncle N.E. and Mary HARLOW in Leaksville, NC some time around 1910 (He was about 23 at the time) He married Annie HARDY in 1914. Leaksville is now named Eden and this is where we live. Do you know of any BALSERS living in Goshen, Va.? Any with a email address? I am having a hard time getting info on the Balsers. Also, any possibility that this surname is related to possible criminal or mentally instable persons? Have personally tried to contact several families by mail, but didn't even get the courtesy of a single reply, or return of self stamped envelope.
