WILL OF JOHN SANDRIDGE
PROBATED 21 FEBRUARY 1803, AMHERST COUNTY, VIRGINIA
In the name of God Amen the sixth day of December in the year
of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred & ninety-six I John
Sandidge of the Co. of Amherst being in health of body and of
perfect mind and memory Thanks be to God therefore calling to
mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed
for all men once to Die do make and ordain this my last will and
testament in manner and form following Viz principally and first
of all I give my Soul to God that gave it trusting that through
the mercy and merits of Jesus Christ my Blessed Savior to receive
full pardon of all my Sins committed in this life and be received
into eternal life and my Body I give to the Earth to be Buried in
Christian like and decent manner at the discretion of my
Executors hereafter named, and as touching such worldly Estate as
it has pleased God to bless me with. I give and dispose of it in
the following manner
Item vz I give to my daughter Mary Sandidge one Negro girl
named Matilda to her and her heirs forever also one feather Bed
and Furniture one cow & calf three hundred weight of Pork & 3
barrels of corn to be raised out of my Estate.
Item I give to my Daughter Rachel Sandidge one Feather Bed
and Furniture one cow & calf and 3 barrels of corn and 300 weight
of Pork to be raised out of my Estate.
Item I give to my Daughter Amy Sandidge one feather Bed and
furniture one cow and calf three Barrels of corn & 300 weight of
Pork to be raised out of my Estate.
Item I give to my son Waller Sandidge one feather bed and
furniture one cow and calf three Barrels of corn and 300 weight
of Pork to be raised out of my Estate also my Gun & Shott Powder
Item my two tracts of land the one that I bought of John
Roberts one hundred and eighty acres and the Tuck Mountain Survey
to be sold together and the land I bought of Nebon Crawford and
Blankston Mountain Survey to be sold together and all the rest of
my Estate both real and personal to be sold in the like manner of
the last above mentioned to the highest Bidder agreeable to law
and the money arising from such Sale to be equally Divided
amongst my Children that is to say William Sandidge, Pulliam
Sandidge, Dolly Higgenbotham, Mary Sandidge, Ann Higgenbotham,
Larkin Sandidge, Benjamin Sandidge, Betsy Carter, Annis
Childress, Delphia Carter, Rachel Sandidge, Amy Sandidge & Waller
Sandidge.
Item My Will is that if any of my above named children should
die without lawful heir that their divisible part of my Estate
shall be equally divided amongst my surviving children. It is my
will that the part of Ann Higgenbotham of my Estate shall be
equally Divided amongst her children Viz Dolly Higgenbotham,
Fanny Higgenbotham, Agey Higgenbotham, Warner Higgenbotham, Betsy
Higgenbotham & Ann Higgenbotham to be paid to them as they come
of lawful age by my Executors
Item Also it is my will that the divisible part of my Estate
given to my daughter Delphia Carter Dec'd to be equally divided
between her son Larkin Gatewood Carter and my daughter Rachel
Sandidge his part to be paid him by my Executors when he comes of
lawful age Finally I appoint my three sons that is to say William
Sandidge, Larkin Sandidge, and Waller Sandidge Executors of this
my last Will and Testament.
