Thomas Cemetery on Turkey Mt.

Location:
US 29N, left on Hwy 151 to Clifford P.O.
Turn left on Turkey Mt. Rd.(610)
Proceed 1 1/2 Miles to Morris Thomas Farm on Right.
Cemetery is north of road on a dirt farm lane. There are
several homemade, soapstone grave markers as well as several
tombstones. The cemetery was established by William E. Thomas.

Tombstone reads "He died trusting to be a soldier of the
Cross." He was a charter member of Clifford Baptist Church.
William served in the Civil War as a member of the
Amherst Rough and Ready, the 49th Va. Infantry.

William E. Thomas owned and operated this 400 acres of farm. He and his
wife, Averilla Priscilla Campbell Thomas moved to the Clifford area around
1890. They had 11 children. Two died at a young age. The others were:

2006 - The old home place is still standing within sight of the Cemetery. The farm is now owned by William's grandson, Morris Thomas & his wife, Jean.
