Mike
Wood May, 2001 |
My name is Mike Wood. I was
searching recently for connections to my grandfather's side of our family.
I obtained his application for Social Security and was able to identify my
great grandparents. I knew he was born in Crockett County TN and began my
search there. I found out that Crockett County was made up of four areas -
Dyer, Madison, Gibson and Haywood back in 1872. I started my new search
with Dyer County and I hit the proverbial jackpot. I found connections
back to Virginia by way of my great-great-great grandfather George Archer
Wood who was born in Henrico County on Feb 2, 1779. Today is
May 23, 2001 and all this information came to me via Judith Arthur who
lives in New York and from Margaret Finley (a Wood descendent) who lives
in Fairfax, VA. This information came to me over a period of about 3 days
and has brought total excitement into my life now that I know about my
ancestors. Margaret Finley has done (from what I was told) probably about
95% of the research of the Wood Family. From the documentation that
accompanied the information I am assured that it is accurate.
To make a long story
short, I want to thank Judith and Margaret for their hard work and to let
everyone out there who has come up against a brick wall in their research
to keep plugging away. Some days there will be famine and then there are
the days of feasts where you find so much information, so fast, that it is
mind boggling. I also want to especially thank all of the many volunteers
of the GenWeb sites all across this great country of ours who have put in
countless of hours of work so that we and our future generations will know
where they came from and the part their ancestors had in forming this
country of ours. |
