Tina Ann LaCarrubba, 50, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 24 years, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2004. Tina was born April 21, 1954, the daughter of Theodore J. and Agnes Marie Little VanBastian in Reno, Nevada. Tina had been a buyer in retail sales before her death. She was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore Van Bastian, Jr., in 1981. Tina is survived by her parents, Theodore and Agnes VanBastian; three sisters, Cheryl Sharp, Beth Lane, and Linda Cooner; one brother, Steven Van Bastian; and several nieces and nephews. Private family services have been held. It has been suggested that memorial contributions be made in Tina's name to the American Diabetes Association, Juvenile Diabetes, NM Affiliate, 525 San Pedro Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Funeral in Oakland Thursday for Mrs. Augustus LAMB - Funeral services for Mrs. Augusta LAMB, who passed away yesterday morning will be held in Oakland tomorrow followed by cremation.

The late Mrs. LAMB was born in Virginia City and spent many years on the Comstock where her parents conducted a toll house and dairy north of Virginia City.

After the death of her husband, she resided for a time in Potter Valley, California, but came to Carson about twenty years ago. Part of the time in recent years, she has been with her daughter in Niles, California.

Mrs. LAMB was a meber of Esther Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and enjoyed a wide circle of close friends in this city. Surviving relatives are her son, Hugh R. LAMB of Carson City, dauther, Mrs. Olive EABIAS of Niles, California; granddaughters Rosalie Gene PAYNE of Carson City, and Harriet EABIAS of Niels, Calif.; brothers Rufe HENRICHS of Reno, Peter HENRICHS of Yerington and Fred HENRICHS of Sparks; sister Mrs. Mabel PLUMMER of Reno; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Leota May MCGINNIS LEAKE, age 70, died Saturday, August 28, 2004 in Las Vegas.

She was born June 23, 1934 in Buffalo, Missouri to Clarence Ray and Amanda Gladys JAMES MCGINNIS. On September 21, 1955 she married William Tucker LEAKE in Camp Pendleton, California. She moved to Moapa in 1977 and Overton in 1987.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Moapa Valley Mortuary, Logandale, Nevada. Arrangements under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.

Heber Chase LEAVITT, 86 year old resident of Mesquite, Nevada, died Sunday in St. George, Utah. Heber was born June 16, 1896 in Gunlock, Utah. He was a farmer and an Army veteran. He is survived by his sons, Harley LEAVITT of Mesquite, LaMar and Lindsay LEAVITT both of Las Vegas; Etta CHEENEY and Norma CLARK of St. George, Utah; brother Woodroff LEAVITT of St. George, 21 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday) in Mesquite LDS Chapel with the burial following at the Mesquite Cemetery.

Laman Pulsipher LEAVITT, 84, of St. George, Utah, died last Saturday in St. George. He was a former 37-year resident of Las Vegas.

He was born July 21, 1895 in Bunkerville, Utah, and was a Utah State Highway Patrolman. He also was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was on the Paradise Valley School Board and was also instrumental in bringing utility roads to Paradise Valley.

He is survived by his wife, Donna of St. George; sons, LeGrande of Downey, Calif. and Fred of Granda Hills, Calif.; daughters, Donna HEATH of Salt Lake City, Bonnie FORD of Aurora, Colo., and Joan BARNARD of Seattle; sisters, Mabel RUSHTON of Vaughn, Mont., Minuerua MCKNIGHT of Las Vegas, Retta PRESCOTT of Lyman, Wyo. and Camilla HUNTER of Filmore, Utah; 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Wednesday in the St. George LDS East Stake Center, Bishop Jerry LEWIS officiated. Burial was in Bunkerville City Cemetery.


LEAVITT, Rose Lee.  Moapa Valley Progress, Clark County, June 30, 2004, Transcribed by Patricia A. Scott.

Rose Lee LEAVITT, 68, died June 23, 2004 at her home in Moapa Valley after battling cancer.

She was born February 1, 1936, in Provo, Utah to Herbert Wilford and Inez WHEELON MARSTON. On August 14, 1953, she married Wayne Gabriel LEAVITT in Ely. He preceded her in death on March 24, 1997.

She grew up in a little coal mining town callede Gandy, Utah, just east of Ely. Her family also lived in Ely and Provo, Utah. After her marriage, she reared her family in Ely, Southern California for 10 years, and in 1968, they moved to Moapa. She enjoyed quilting and being with family. She worked as a licensed practical nurse, and later became an EMT working as a volunteer with the Moapa Fire Station. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and friend with a lot of spunk and energy.

Survivors include two sons, Randy (Kay) of Elko, and Donald Ray of Moapa; one daughter Peggy Lee (Walter) WUNSCHE of Overton; two sisters, Betty (Bill) HEINTZ of Moapa, and Vickie JENNINGS of Portland, Ore.; a brother Lloyd (Janice) MARSTON of Hurricane, Utah; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Mark Ether LEAVITT in 1983.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 26, at the Moapa LDS Chapel. Arrangements were under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.

Helen SPRAGUE LEE, age 96, died Thursday, September 9, 2004, in Las Vegas.

She was born March 10, 1908 in Bunkerville, Nevada to Ithamar Dudley and Alice LEAVITT SPRAGUE. On August 1, 1936 she married Glen Francis LEE in Parowan, Utah. In November of 1965, they were sealed in the St. Goerge Temple. He preceded her in death on April 7, 1976.

LEE grew up in Bunkerville, then at age ten, she moved to Kaolin to attend school in St. Thomas and later in Overton. She lived in Overton, Veyo, Utah and St. Goerge, Utah, finally living her last few years in Las Vegas. She served two LDS Missions, the first to washington State, the second to the Washington D.C. Temple. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, painting and crocheting.

She is survived by nieces and nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by three sisters and her parents.

Graveaise services were September 14, 2004 in the Bunkerville Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary, Logandale.

Private family services will be held for Sharon Lee, 69, who died June 28 in Pahrump.Her daughter Cris (Cliff) GREGORY of California, son Kirk LEE of Pahrump, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive her. Her husband preceded her in death.

Ammon Gibson LEWIS, a 14 1/2 month old son of Ronald and Pat LEWIS died February 13th in a San Diego children's hospital after an open-heart surgery failed to revive him.
Ammon LEWIS was born Dec. 1, 1978. He was a March of Dimes poster child and was called the million dollar baby because it cost $1 million in surgery to keep the child alive.
Mrs. Wendell HUTCHINGS, a grandparent said the child was a happy, pleasant baby and was well loved by doctors and nurses.
Ammon is survived by his parents Ronald and Pat LEWIS of Moapa, his three sisters, Natalie 13, Tricia 7, Nicole 2, and his two brothers Adam 10 and Aaron 8, all of Moapa. He is also survived by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Wendell HUTCHINGS of Logandale, and Mr. and Mrs. Paul LEWIS of Moapa.
Funeral services were held last Saturday in the Logandale LDS Chapel under the direction of Bishop Vee WILSON. Internment was in the Logandale cemetery.

Jonathan Glenn LEWIS, age 23, died Thursday, March 24, 2005 at his home in Moapa, Nevada. He was born July 22, 1981 in Las Vegas, Nevada to Robert Condie and Vivian Lee COOK LEWIS.

Jonathan lived most of his life in Moapa, graduating from Moapa Valley High School. He served an LDS Mission to Manchester, England, after which he started his own company and attended Utah State University for one year. He loved working on the ranch, in the shop and operating equipment. He was very generous, loved to "do" for others, and spending time with his grandparents.

Survivors include his parents Robert and Vivian of Moapa; grandparents: Paul and Lou Jeanne LEWIS of Moapa; Emma COOK of Washington, UT: four sisters and five brothers: Robyn (Ray) BELLAVANCE of Moapa; Lou Jeanne (Byron) BRUNSON of Logan, UT; Emili (David) CULP of Overton; Malinda (Anthony) JOSEPH of Logan, UT; Clarence (Kara) of Overton; Paul (Grace) of Rosebud, AR; Gibson; Abraham; Henry all of Moapa; eight nephews and three nieces.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 28, 2005 at 11 a.m. at the Moapa LDS Chapel. Visitation will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be in the Warm Springs Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.

LORD, Floya – born 05/15/1936, Nevada; died 12/09/1999, aged 63

Floya Wannell Lord, 63, of Spring Valley died Thursday. She was born in Nevada. Mrs. Lord worked for 16 years as a clerk-typist for the Social Security office in El Cajon. Survivors include her companion, Grover Churchill of El Cajon; daughters, Rebecca Lingar of Portland, Ore., and Genia Shankle of Lufkin, Texas; sons, James Lingar of Van Buren, Ark., Stephen Lord of Lovington, N.M., Fred Lord of San Diego and John Lord of Portland; sister, Geraldine Ballard; brothers, Don Nicholson, Wm. Joe Lee and Wm. Jim Lee; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. today, Erickson-Anderson Mortuary, 8390 Allison Ave., La Mesa, with visitation one hour before services.

LYON, Warren McLachlin "Mack".  Moapa Valley Progress, Clark County, July 21, 2004. Transcribed by Patricia A. Scott

Warren McLachlan "Mack" LYON, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Mesquite, at the age of 92.

He was born August 13, 1911, in Murray, Utah to Warren Harvey and Hannah WELCH MCLACHLAN LYON.

At the age of three, he moved with his family to Overton at the suggestion of the family doctor that his father should move to a warm dry climate. Much of his early years were spent helping his parents with the family busniess. His father was in the drug and mercantile busiiness and later acquired Moapa Valley Telephone Company.

LYON graduated from Moapa Valley High School where he was active in music and theater. He was called to serve in Oklahoma as a missionary. After his mission, his youngest sister Aileen, introduced him to her roommate, Dorothy BOWMAN. After a brief courtship, they were married on August 17, 1937, in the Salt Lake Temple. The young couple journeyed to Stillwater, Oklahoma and enrolled at Oklahoma A&M.

They returned to Overton a year later where together, they assumed the operation and management of the Moapa Valley Telephone Company for the next 37 years. He was called to serve as the Bisho pof Oerton Ward in 1946. During his tenure, construction of the chapel was begun and completed for dedication. Upon his release, he was called to serve as a member of the Moapa Stake Presidency. Mission calls to serve in the California Sacramento Mission and the Seattle Washington Temple followed. More recently, before his health would no longer allow him to continue, he served in the Nevada Las Vegas Temple.

LYON was active in the community affairs serving several times as president of the Moapa Valley Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Overton Water District Board, when culinary water was first piped from the springs to the lower valley. When Moapa Valley High School moved to its new location, the middle school was named W. Mack LYON Middle School. LYON has had an influence on the lives of many people from the young cub scout to the aged senior citizen.

Survivors include his daughters: Patricia (Sam)WELLS of Anaheim, Calif., Karen (James) HANSEN of Evansville, IN; Jeanenne (Brent) NIELSEN of Hyrum, Utah; sons, Calvert (Linda) and John (Monique) LYON of Overton, NV; 25 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren and one sister, Aileen TATE of Salt Lake City, UT. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, a daughter, Rebecca, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at 10 a.m. at the Overton LDS Chapel. Interment was in the Pioneer Hill Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Moapa Valley Mortuary.

Oral Talmage LYTLE, age 90, died Sunday, July 4, 2004 in St. George, Utah.

He was born March 23, 1914 to John A. and Mary V. PERKINS LYTLE in Overton. In 1947, he married Eleanor BUHECKER in Las Vegas. She preceded him in death on April 14, 1984. In 1987, he married Myrna SANDERS in Layton, Utah. She preceded him in death on March 23, 1994. LYTLE grew up in Overton, and served his country in the Army during WWII receiving an honorable discharge in 1945. He worked at the old El Rancho Hotel for several years before buying a ranch on the Utah/Nevada border at Beaver Dam. In 1985, he sold the ranch to the Nature Conservancy and BYU. He then moved to Santa Clara until the fall of 2003 he moved to the Legacy House in St. george where he enjoyed the care and companionship they offered until his death.

Survivors include one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; brother Paul, John V., Lawson "Grant" and Verdell, and one sister, Virginia GIANNOTTI.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 12, at the Moapa Valley Mortuary Chapel, Logandale. Arrangements under the direction of the Moapa Valley Mortuary.
