Funeral services for William Allen, who passed away at his home in Ogallala early Saturday morning, were held from the Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. A. G. Swanson.
Mr. Allen had attended Memorial services in the cemetery on Friday and remarked to his family that he was feeling unusually well. About 11 o'clock Friday night he became ill and called his daughter Mrs. Rice.
Medical aid was summoned but he passed away shortly after 3 o'clock a.m.
Among Mr. Allen's earliest recollections was a trip from Wisconsin to Iowa in 1864 when he walked the entire distance driving cattle. At or near Des Moines he saw a railroad train which to him was a great marvel.
He lived through severe pioneer hardships, dressed in homespun, and attended school during portions of four years, when there was no work to do.
During his twenty three years residence in Keith county he has been respected by business associates and admired by neighbors.
Obituary
William Allen was born March 20, 1855, in Wisconsin, and died May 31, 1930 at the age of 75 years, two months and 11 days. At the age of nine years he moved to western Iowa.
On January 1, 1877, when he was twenty one years of age, in Mills county, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Barbara Elizabeth Hutchings, the daughter of a prominent farmer, and began cultivating a rented farm near Hastings.
He lived in that vicinity until 1900, when he moved with his family to Harrison county, Iowa. In 1907 he moved to Keith county to a farm about three miles south west of Ogallala. In 1920 he moved to his town home on West Fourth street.
In early life he united with the United Brethren church in which he was an active worker. When he moved to Keith county he became a member or the Methodist church of Ogallala.
He was also a faithful member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for forth years.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Swanson from the Methodist church, assisted by a quartet which sang, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "Whispering Hope," and "In the Sweet By and By", which songs were requested by the family.
The pastor expressed his friendship in a beautiful eulogy and spoke comforting words from the text, Job 5:26.
At the cemetery, using the beautiful ritual of the fraternity, his brethren of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, laid him to rest by the side of his wife. Six Odd Fellows acted as pall bearers: Dan Spangler, L. A. DeVoe, J. Dresslar, Oscar Eymann, C. Rice and W. McK. Burford. These men also acted in this capacity at the funeral of Mrs. Allen, and a son Oren Allen, who passed away several years ago. C. Arrowsmith, funeral director.
He was preceded in death by his wife, who departed this life January 15, 1925, and by a son, Oren, who passed away June 23, 1924. He is survived by one son, Barton of Ogallala, six daughters, Mrs. Cora Wheeler, Mrs. Margaret Rice, and Mrs. Betha Peterson of Ogallala, Mrs. Lettie Kimball and Mrs. Jane McDonald of Ordway, Colorado, and Mrs. Osa Donnelson of Logan, Iowa, all of whom were present. Twenty grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive.

The funeral services for Mrs. Wm. Allen, who died at her home in Ogallala, Thursday, January 15, were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. C. Staley with the assistance of the choir. The pallbearers, all Odd Fellows, were Messrs.Dan Spangler, I. A. DeVoe, T. I. Dutch, O. Eymann, C. Rice and J. Dressler.
The relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mrs. Leon C. Rice, Hutchinson, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie L. Donnelson, Magnolia, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Jane McDonald and two sons, Olan and Paul, of Norfolk, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Kimball and children, of Olney Springs, Colorado, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Campbell, of Emerson, Iowa.
Obituary
Barbara Elizabeth Hutchings was born Sept. 25th, 1856 in Page County, Iowa, and passed to her reward Jan. 15th, 1925, at her home in Ogallala, age sixty eight years, three months and twenty two days. She grew to womanhood in Mills Co., Iowa, where she was united in marriage to Mr. Allen Jan. 1st. 1877. To them were born eight children, seven of whom are still living; Mrs. Cora Wheeler, Barton Allen, and Mrs. Bertha Peterson, all of Ogallala: Mrs. Margaret Rice, Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Jane McDonald, Norfolk, Nebraska, Mrs. Lettie Kimball, Olney Springs, Colorado, Mrs. Osa Donnelson, Magnolia, Iowa, and Oren who preceded her in death less than a year ago.
Besides her husband and children the deceased leaves to mourn her departure one sister, Mrs. William Campbell, of Emerson, Iowa and two brothers, Barton Hutchings of Hastings, Iowa, and J. J. Hutchings, of Arkansas City, Kans., seventeen grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The family moved from Iowa March 1907, to their farm near Ogallala where they lived until March 1920 when they moved to town. She became a member of the United Brethren church in youth and transferred her membership to the Methodist church in Ogallala Easter Sunday 1908.

The funeral of Oren Allen was held at the congregational church in Ogallala on Friday, July 25, at 2:30 p.m., and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. Warren Morse. A brief service had been held at the old home on the ranch just previous to the service at the church. Oren had died very suddenly.
He had gone out to feed his stock about six o'clock Wednesday morning and was found dead where he had fallen by the children who went out to call him to breakfast a few minutes later.
Oren Allen was a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Allen and was born on February 17, 1879 in Mills County, Iowa. The family left Iowa and moved to Ogallala in 1907, and lived on a ranch, which they bought, situated about three miles southwest of town.
On Sept. 20, 1911, Oren was married to Ruth Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hurley Brown. They lived on the Allen ranch all their married life, first in a small house built for them, and about four years ago they moved into the old home house when the parents moved into town.The children born to Mr. and Mrs. Oren Allen were Fern Irene who will be eleven on Sept. 13, Osa Alice who will be seven on the 25th of August, and Floyd Oren who was five on the 16th of this month. Besides his wife, his children, and his parents who are all so sorely bereft, Oren leaves one brother, Barton Allen, of Magnolia, Ia., and six sisters, Mrs. Cora Wheeler of this town. Mrs. Maggie Rice, of Hutchinson, Kansas, Mrs. Jane McDonald, of Norfolk, Nebraska. Mrs. Osa Donaldson, of Magnolia, Iowa, Mrs. Bertha Peterson of Ogallala, and Mrs. Lettie Kimball, of Ordway, Colorado. The brother and all the sisters but Mrs. Rice of Kansas, were here for the services.

The bearers were Messrs. L. A. DeVoe, Dan Spangler, Charles Rice, Oscar Eymann, Jake Dressler and Tom Dutch.
The impressive I.O.O.F. service was held at the grave in charge of the members of the Ogallala Lodge of which Oren Allen had been a worthy member.
Mr. DeVoe paid a beautiful tribute to his memory.

Barton Allen
Died July 10, 1949- Ogallala NewspaperOGALLALAN, LONG AILING, DIES SUNDAY
Funeral Rites for Barton Allen, 67, planned WednesdayBarton Allen, 67, a resident of Ogallala the past 26 years, died about 6 o'clock Sunday evening at the family home, 807 East 2nd. street.
Mr. Allen had not enjoyed good health the past five years. A heart attack July 3 caused his death.
He was a member of the Ogallala I.O.O.F. Lodge and a member of the Ogallala Methodist church.
Born June 25, 1882 in Mills county, Ia., Mr. Allen lived most of his life in that community before coming to Keith county to make his home. He was married to Anna [sic] Giddings at Logan, Ia., Dec. 26, 1916. Surviving are his widow of the home, three sons, Barton E. (Babe) of Ogallala; Herbert of North Platte and Melvin of Paxton one daughter, Mrs. Frances Burnworth of La Monte, Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Osa Donnelson of Logan, Ia., Mrs. Bertha Peterson of Giant [sic] and Mrs. Lettie Kimbal of Ordway, Colo.; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Three sons, preceded him in death. One son, Cecil, lost his life two years ago in a traffic accident near Paxton.
Funeral serves will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist church. The Rev. Henry E. Hess will officiate. Graveside rites in the ogallala cemetery will be conducted by members of the I. O. O. F. lodge.
Friends may view the body at Bracken Mortuary until time of services Wednesday.
Hanna Allen Died August 04, 1967LAST RITES TODAY FOR HANNAH ALLEN, 60-YEAR RESIDENT
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday from Bracken Memorial Chapel for Mrs. Hannah Mae Allen, 78, who died Friday evening at Linden Manor Rest Home, in North Platte.
She had been a resident of Ogallala for 60 years and had lived at the home since last January.
The Rev. Stanley D. Rider, Methodist minister, conducted the service.
Interment was in the Ogallala cemetery.
Mrs. Allen was born June 29, 1889 in Harrison County, Ia., the daughter of Alonzo and Catherine Giddings. She was married to Barton Allen Dec. 25, 1906 at Logan, Ia., and the couple established their home at Ogallala, early in 1907. Mr. Allen died in 1949.
Mrs. Allen was a longtime member of the Ogallala Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Frances Burnworth of Kansas City, Mo., one son, Babe Allen of Ogallala, 22 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by five brothers, two sisters, and five sons.
