Richard Agnew

News was received here Thursday evening of the death of Richard
Agnew at Colorado Springs. Mr. Agnew was a former resident of
Fairbury and a man most highly respected by all who knew him. The
particulars of the sad affair have not been received here as we go
to press.
J. A. Alexander

J. A. Alexander, an old and highly respected citizen of Steele
City, died Tuesday morning at the age of 89 years. The deceased
came to this county from Nodaway county, Missouri, something over
ten years ago, and was at the time of his death a member of the
general merchandise firm of Alexander & Cole. The funeral
exercises were held in the Baptist church of Steele City and were
conducted by Rev. Barkley of Alexandria, assisted by the Methodist
minister of that city. The Masonic lodge, of which he was an
honored member, acting as an escort to the depot.

Rebecca Ashpaugh

Mrs. Ashpaugh, relict of Hiram Ashpaugh and mother of Hanford
Ashpaugh, formerly of this city and now of Beatrice, died at the
home of her daughter, Mrs. Isabel Turner, in Humeston, Iowa,
January 3. She was born in Indiana, Jan 20, 1842 and was married
to Hiram Ashpaugh Jan 3, 1861. In 1878, the family located in
Fairbury. Mr. Ashpaugh died a few years ago. Five children were
born to them, three sons and two daughters. Those who survive are
the two given above and one daughter Emma, whose address is
unknown. The remains were brot to Fairbury and the funeral held at
the Methodist church, conducted by Rev Cline, Wednesday of this
week.
Katherine C. Axtell

Mrs. Katherine C. Axtell died at Stanbury, Mo., Wednesday, the
remains being brought to this city yesterday. The funeral will
take place at Richland Center today. The deceased was an old
resident of this city having located here in 1869.
