Carberry, Agnes - aged 12 years, of bright's disease, at Stuart, Saturday, June 29 at 4 o'clock pm.
The funeral occurred at 2 pm last Sunday from the Catholic Church in this city, and the interment took place in the Catholic Cemetery. A large procession followed the remains from Stuart and was met here by a goodly number of friends of the family. She was the daughter of Mr and Mrs John Carberry, who were among the earliest settlers in this locality and we believe that we voice the sentiment of the entire community when we say that they as deeply feel the loss as do the fond parents. This is the second daughter that they have buried in the last three months, and the loss is a sad one for the bereaved parents. Another daughter is sick, but reported better. Let us hope that it is so.

CARBERRY SUICIDES
BY THE AIM OF A PISTOL HIS WEARY SPIRIT WINGS ITS FLIGHT TO THAT UNEXPLORED LAND
Last Tuesday morning about 9 o'clock John Carberry, a resident of Stuart, but a former resident of Atkinson, having come through here twenty years ago, walked through his house from the front to the back porch, saw the sheriff coming, placed a revolver to the right side of his head, back of the ear, and fired with deadly effects. Thus ends the life of an old man, whose cup of bitterness was filled to the brim.
The causes which led up to this tragic event are about as follows; he was arrested May 12, taken to O'Neill and placed under $800. bonds for being implicated with his son, Thomas, John Fanton, and Oliver Holmquest in the stealing of Timothy Cross' cattle. Thomas was convicted about two months ago, but was out on $800. bonds pending a motion for a new trial. He was to have had his hearing last Saturday before Judge Kinkaid, but after his father was arrested, left for parts unknown, forfeiting his bonds. After he left John Carberry's bondsmen became alarmed, fearing he might also skip, and withdrew from the bond. The sheriff came up from O'Neill to take him in charge, pending the furnishing of a new bond, and was on the way to the house to take him to the train when the shooting occurred.
As to his guilt or innocence, a charitable people will give him the benefit of a doubt. That his mind was unbalanced, there can be no question, as he has been acting queerly for some time. His wife and children have the sympathy of their old neighbors and friends in this hour of affliction.

MRS CARBERRY
Saturday afternoon, Mrs Mary Carberry passed to her final reward at her home in Stuart. Mrs Carberry, early pioneer and first white woman in this territory, leaves hosts of friends in every part of the country.
The deceased, Mary Stuart Carberry, was born South Leith, Scotland, Oct 24,1846, and received her education at Edinburg, Scotland. In 1846 she was married to John Carberry, a young Irish politician, but in 1867 political conditions became such that the young couple with their two year old boy, decided to try their fortune in America. They embarked for this country in the spring of 1867. Arriving at NY, Mr Carberry engaged in the real estate business for a number of years, in the eastern states.
In the year of 1876, he and his family moved to Nebr, settling near the present site of Atkinson; the site, church property and cemetery of that city are a lasting monument to their unbounded generosity. The Carberry's prospered here in Nebr and at one time the Stuart township almost entire, was the property of the Carberry family.
The present city of Stuart is named after the father of the deceased, Capt Peter Stuart.
Mrs Carberry was a woman of high intellectual attainments and of considerable travel, having resided in nearly every part of the US.
The mother of 11 children, she leaves behind, along with a host of friends and relatives, but 3 dau and 2 sons. They are Mrs H D Caddy of Riverton, Wyo; Mrs Frank Bigelow and Mrs F S Stuart of Stuart. P C Carberry of Casper, Wyo; and J J Carberry of Twin Falls, Idaho.
Services were held from St Boniface Church and interment was made in St Joseph Cem at Atkinson - The Stuart Advocate Feb 14,1918.

MRS WILLIAM CORRIGAN
Mrs Julia Corrigan passed away at her home near Emmet,Nebr, on the morning of Feb 1st following an illness of ten days.
Julia Kane was born in Blackwood, Wales, 68 years ago. When a young woman she emigrated to the US coming to Wilkesbarre,Penn, where she was united in marriage with Edward Mullen, to this union four children were born.
The family moved to Streater, Ill, where shortly afterwards the husband met his death in a coal mine accident and she was left alone with two small children, death having claimed two of the children.
In 1879 in company with a brother, a widower, she emigrated to O'Neill then a frontier country and settled on a homestead.
She was married to William Corrigan and to this union 9 children were born. Mrs Corrigan belonged to the class of hardy, sturdy pioneers whose strong and abiding faith in God and humanity gave her the strength to endure the hardships and overcome the obstacles that confronted the early homesteaders of our country.
She was a devout Catholic and the community loses a good neighbor whose prayers, kind acts and help in any way was always cheerfully extended to all in sickness or trouble.
Very fortunately her husband and four surviving children were able to be at her bedside and with the help of devoted friends did what they could to make her last days happy and peaceful.
The surviving members of the family are her husband and two sons, Edward Mullen and Patrick Corrigan and two daughters Miss Catherine and Mrs Julia Samples.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Epiphany, Emmet, Nebr where mass was celeberated by Rev Father Byrne and the body taken to St Joseph's Cemetery at Atkinson to rest beside her childen who have "gone before".

MRS GILBERT DAVIS PASSED AWAY THURSDAY AT NOON
Mrs Gilbert Davis, one of Atkinson's early residents, passed away at her home yesterday at noon following a hemorrhage of the brain suffered Wednesday evening about 9 o'clock. Mrs Davis had been ailing for about a year but was seemingly much improved. Wednesday afternoon she felt well and went to Emmet for a short visit.
She was 55 years of age and is survived by her husband, G R Davis and 8 children, 2 of whom, Neal and Donald, live at home. Funeral arrangements have not been completed but it is expected the service will be held Monday morning at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Atkinson.

RITES HELD AT CATHOLIC CHURCH FOR MRS G R DAVIS
Funeral services were held at St Joseph Catholic Church in this city Saturday morning for Mrs Gilbert Davis, who passed away Thursday, June 6 following a hemorrhage of the brain suffered the evening before. The rites were conducted by Pastor Father John Pieper, burial was made in St Joseph's Cemetery.
Mrs Davis was almost 56 years of age and she spent practically her whole life in this community, coming here from her birthplace in Scranton, Penn, while still a small child. She was born June 15,1873, the daughter of Patrick and Mary O'Connor. Her childhood was spent on a farm about 3 miles south of Stuart, where the family moved in 1880. She was a pupil in the country school aobut 2 and ½ miles southeast of Stuart in 1888 when the big blizzard struck. W S Morgan of Atkinson was then the teacher and he and the pupils lived at the school house until the storm cleared away.
Mrs Davis attended high school in O'Neill about the year 1893, after which she taught 2 terms in the Bureha school 7 miles southwest of Atkinson, now known as the Jonas school. Here she met Mr Davis and on Sept 29,1896, they were married in Atkinson. Mr and Mrs Davis homesteaded about 6 miles southwest of Atkinson after their marriage. They moved to town in 1913 and have since resided here.
To Mr and Mrs Davis were born 9 children, 8 of whom, together with Mr Davis, survive the mother. They are; LeRoy H of Holtville, California, Errol E of 347 W 41st Place, Los Angeles, James I of Del Rio, Wash, Mrs Wilma Westlake of Atkinson, Jetty M of 628 N Weber Street, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mrs Evelyn Frohman of Brennan, SD, Neil and Donald living at home. One son, Stanley, died when nearly 2 years old. Four grandchildren also survive. They are Warren and Dona May Westlake, Jean and Helen Frohman.
