SPAFFORD posted by John Walker on Monday, September 15, 2003

Seeking info regarding my g-g-grandfather Sylvester Woodruff Spafford, b.Feb. 28, 1829, an early settler of Hamilton Co., said to have settled there in 1870, on Lincoln Creek. My grandfather said that his grandfather worked as a surveyor, postmaster, justice of the peace, and died Nov. 9, 1876, at Aurora, from the effects of being shot with a musket ten years earlier (possibly in Allamakee Co., Iowa). He built his own casket & kept it under the house. Does there still exist a cemetary that goes back to his death? Any help on other details of his life would be appreciated.
