JACKSON is situated nine miles northwest of Dakota City in the northern part of Dakota county,
It has a population of 500. The town lies on the Ponca branch of the C. St, P.M. & O. Ry. And the Pacific
Short Line. The country roundabout is now in the most flourishing condition. The Bank of Dakota County,
by E.E. Halstead, president, Ed T. Kearney cashier, is an excellent financial concern. The town supports a
good opera house. The press is represented by the Criterion, a newsy sheet. The Catholic church is
an elegant structure. Judging for the prosperous condition of the surrounding country, Jackson may be
looked upon as one of the most favored localities in the great section of country in which it is placed. The
Pacific Short Line Ry Co. is building stock yards and a steam elevator with a capacity of 10,000 bushels.

South Sioux City is perhaps of the most phenomenal growth of any town in northern Nebraska. It
is but three years old and already has a population of 600. It is situated in Dakota county, one mile south of
Covington, which lies directly across the river from Sioux City. The people who settled here were
determine to make a town, and up to the present have succeeded beyond their expectations. The place is
still rapidly growing. Among the churches are the Presbyterian and English Lutheran. The village is
incorporated and supports two newspapers, the Sun and Times . The Merchants Hotel, by
Miss Anna Egan, is a well kept house. The Citizens Bank Wm. S. White, cashier, is doing business on a
good substantial basis. J.P. Meredith deals largely in real estate and loans. A line of street cars connects
this village with Dakota City as well as Covington, making it easy of access from all points.
