In the World War 1917-1918-1919, Buffalo County, Nebraska

1. Private Joe L. Wertman, Son of A. D. Wertman, Kearney. Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney. Neb., March 4, 1918, and trained at Ft. Riley, and Camp Crain, for duty with the Medical Corps. Crossed to France in August, 1918, and in service at Le Mans, France.

2. Private George W. Sear, Son of Chas. Sear, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney. Neb., Sept. 4, 1918, and was trained at Ft. Riley, Kansas, for duty with the Medical Corps, and received his discharge December 23, 1918.

3. Private Rex Wm. Jeffers, Son of Thomas Jeffers, Lynden, Wash.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., July 21, 1918, and was trained at Camp Dodge, for duty in 163d D. B., Co. 35, 9th Infantry. Received his discharge papers on December 9, 1918. Farming near Amherst, Nebraska.

4. Sergeant Glenn Elliott, Son of Henry Elliott, Riverdale, Neb.
Entered the service at Great Falls, Mont., Sept. 19, 1917, and was trained at Camp Lewis, Wash., for duty in Co. D. Motor Supply Train, 91st Division. In St. Mihiel, Meuse-Argonne, and Ypres-Lys offensives. Discharged May 8, 1919.

5. Private David Lindholm, Son of C. Lindholm, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Cody N M duty Co. K, 59th Infantry, 4th Division. Saw service at Chateau-Thierry and Argonne Woods; wounded. Discharged on February 15, 1919. Farming near Kearney.

6. Arthur Lindholm, Son of C. Lindholm, Kearney. Neb.
Entered the service at Forsyth, Mont., August 4, 1918, and trained at Camp Fremont, Calif., for duty with Supply Co., 13th Infantry. No other information obtainable.

7. Lieutenant Lorin E. Gunderson, Son of Mrs. L. E. Gunderson, Potter, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., May 27, 1918, receiving three promotions while in the service. At time of his discharge --December 21, 1918 -- he was in the Chemical Warfare Service at Nela Park, Cleveland, Ohio.

8. Private M. H. Lee, Son of M. G. Lee, Shelton, Neb.
Entered the service at Logan, Utah, August 16, 1918, and trained at Logan. U., Winfield Scott and Camp McArthur, Texas, for duty in Co. D. Heavy Artillery. Received his discharge papers December 15, 1918.

1. Sergeant Carl H. Colby,    Son of Mrs. R. E. Colby, Shelton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., July 21, 1918, and was trained at Camp Dodge, Ia., for duty with Co. 35. U. S. Infantry. Received his discharge papers February 13. 1919.
2. Private Arthur Brandhurst,    Son of Henry Brandhurst, Amherst, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., October 3, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston, for duty with the 355th Infantry, 89th Division. Was taken sick at Camp Funston, which kept him from overseas duty. Discharged March 15, 1919.
3. Ralph Waldo Talbot,    Son of A. O. Talbot, Grand Island, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., and trained at Fort Riley. Kansas, for duty in Medical Corp, with Casual Co., 403d A. E. F. Saw duty in France in the hospitals, and received his discharge in early summer of 1919.
4. Second Lieutenant Arthur B. Robinson,    Son of C. S. Robinson, Kearney. Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., Sept. 19, 1917, and trained at Camp Funston, Camp Pike, Camp Perry and Camp Grant, for duty in the U. S. Infantry. Unassigned. Discharged Dec. 3, 1918.
5. Sergeant Hamlet Irvin Bishop,    Son of F. E. Bishop, Carrol, Neb.
Entered the service at Hastings, Neb., in 1917, and trained at Fort Logan and Fort Riley, for duty with the Medical Corps. Received two promotions at Ft. Riley, but was never permitted to go across. Discharged in March, 1919.
6. Hubert Pesek,    Son of Mrs. Anna Pesek, Gibbon, Neb.
Entered the service at Aurora, Neb., August 14, 1917, and trained at Camp Cody, for duty with Company H. 125th Infantry. Saw service in France and returned for demobilization in March, 1919.
7. Tomhas [sic] Halpin,    Son of James Halpin, Pleasanton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., August 29, 1918, and trained at Camp Funston. Remained in training for three months, receiving his discharge papers December 4, 1918. Resides on a farm near Poole, Neb.
8. Private Ralph Bodden,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., March 4, 1918, and trained at Fort Riley, for duty with Co. M. 51st Infantry, (Pioneer Division). Saw service in St. Mihiel offensive, and later in Army of Occupation. Discharged July 13, 1919.

1. Second Lieutenant David A. Webbert,    Son of H. A. Webbert, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service July 22, 1918. Sent to Machine Gun Officers Training School at Camp Hancock, Ga. Served as 2nd Lieutenant with 320th Machine Gun Battalion. Served on the Mexican border also.
2. Private Reuben A. Thomas,    Son of J. W. Thomas, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service June 24, 1918. Landed at Liverpool England, Aug. 28, 1918. Was wounded after sixty days of active service in France.
3. Private Clarence C. Mears,    Son of Dr. C. E, Mears, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service December 12, 1917. Served with the 318th engineers, 6th Division, in France. Saw active service in Argonne Forest, Grand Pre, Verdun and the Somme. Was also with the Army of Occupation.
4. First Lieutenant Frank G. Tracy,    Son of I. S. Tracy, Kearney, Neb.
Entered service March 26, 1917. Sent to Cooly and then to Ft. Sill. 127th Field Artillery, 34th Division. Discharged at Camp Funston, January 27, 1919.
5. Corporal Lester S. Mercer,    Gibbon, Nebraska.
Enlisted July 1918, in Co. 35, 9th B. N. 163d D. B., Camp Dodge, Ia. Later transferred to Co. 6, 2nd B. R., 163rd D. B., remaining in the service at Camp Dodge until he got his discharge.
6. Second Lieutenant Robert G. Hartzell,    Son of T. N. Hartzell, Kearney, Neb.
Entered service at Dodge, Ia., July 21, 1919. Trained at Camp Dodge and Camp Zachary Taylor and Camp [Knox?]. Was a member of the Light Field Artillery; no regular assignment. Discharged December 22, 1919.
7. William F. Woody,    Lomax, Nebraska.
Enlisted May 26, 1918. Trained at Camp Cody and Camp Merritt. Crossed to France in October, 1918. Saw service with the 141st infantry in France.
8. Lieutenant Frank Major, Jr, ,    Son of Frank Major, Kearney, Neb.
Enlisted in April 1917 as Chaplain of the 4th Neb. Sent to Camp Cody and later transferred to 127th F. A. Sent to Ft. Sill and went overseas Sept. 1918. Still in France, though his regiment has returned home. Chaplain of LeMans [?] Frans. Corps.

1. Private John B. Oglebie,    Son of F. M. Oglebie, Shelton, Neb.
Entered service at Kearney. Neb., May 30, 1917. Trained at Omaha, and Camp Cody, N. M. Saw service with the 128th infantry, 32d Division in Soissons and Argonne sectors. Was gassed and wounded during Argonne offensive. Discharged April 17, 1919.
2. Corporal Arthur Echternacht,    Son of Henry Echternacht, Shelton, Neb.
Entered service at Kearney, Neb., May 28, 1918, Trained at Camp Dodge, Ia., field artillery, was a member of Bat. C., 338th F. A., 88th Division in France. Discharged January 17, 1919; lives at Shelton, Neb.
3. Private Harry E. Kelley,    Son of H. S. Kelley, Shelton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., April 25, 1917; trained at Camp Cody. N. M., 127th F. A. Served with the expeditionary forces in France and among the wounded. Discharged at Camp Dodge, on his return. Lives at Kimball, Neb.
4. Private Ernest R. Himmelright,    Son of Frank J. Himmelright, Miller, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., June 24, 1918; trained at Fort Riley and Camp Dodge, Ia., was a member of the Medical Dept., in 274th Am. Co., 19th Sanitary Train, 19th Division. Discharged January 13, 1919.
5. Corporal Romney E. Watson,    Son of W. H. Watson, Brady, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney. Neb., May 2, 1918; trained at Camp Fremont, Calif., and Camp Lee. Va., as a member of Ammunition Train, Co. G., 8th Division. Discharged on April 1, 1919.
6. First Class Musician, H. C. Fredrick,    Son of Mrs. R. Fredrick, Riverdale, Neb.
Entered service at Kearney, Neb., Sept, 20, 1917; trained at Camp Dodge and Camp Cody, N. M., in 6th Wisconsin Band. Saw service in France, and is now residing on a farm at Riverdale, Nebraska.
7. Private Ralph H. Gorbutt,    Son of Leroy Gorbutt, Shelton, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney. Neb., in August, 1918, as member of the S. A. T. C., radio section, Co. B., and received his discharge in November, 1918. Now with Western Electric Telephone and Telegraph Company.
8. Private Godfried Abels ,    Son of Henry Abels, Amherst, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., July 20, 1918; trained at Camp Dodge, Ia., in Co. C. 9th Infantry Division and was discharged from service October 25, 1918. Resides on a farm near Amherst, Nebraska.

Entered the service at Kearney, Nebraska, August 29, 1918, and trained at Camp Funston, Kansas, for duty in Co. B., M. P., 41st Infantry.
2. Private Geo. J. Hart,    Son of I. T. Hart, Pleasanton, Neb.
Entered the service at Broken Bow, in June, 1917, trained at Camp Cody, for duty with M. G. Co., 125th Inf., (Sand Storm Division). Went to France as Replacement in M. G. Co., 125th Inf., 32d Division. At Chateau-Thierry, over the top three times; wounded Oct. 9, 1918, two machine gun bullets through the neck; in Army of Occupation.
3. Private James I. Miller,    Son of James Miller, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., March 29, 1918, trained at Fort Flagler, Washington, for duty with Coast Artillery Corps, 39th Reg., 13th Division. Discharged at Camp Dodge, December 12, 1918.
4. Leslie C. Valentine,    Son of F. A. Valentine, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Council Bluffs, Ia., May 13, 1918, and trained at Camp McArthur, Waco, Tex., for duty in Co. L, 7th Infantry Division. Saw service with Army of Occupation.
5. Corporal Bert L. Reed,    Son of E. F. Reed, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Omaha, Neb., July 1, 1917, and was trained at Camp Cody, New Mexico, for service in the 6th Neb. Infantry, later transferred to the band. Disabled, and received his discharge in November. 1917.
6. Sergeant Frederic D. Ray,    Kearney, Nebraska.
Entered the service at Grand Island, Neb., August 1, 1917, and was trained at Fort Logan, Colo., for duty with Q. M. Supply Co. 306. Crossed to France, landing at St. Nazaire, France.
7. Fred Zimmerman,    Son of Mrs. Ed. Zimmerman, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Grand Island, Neb., in July, 1917, and trained at Camp Cody and Ft. Sill, for duty with Battery E, 127th Heavy Artillery. Crossed to France in August, 1918. Discharged in April 1919.
8. Private Floyd V. Waters,    Son of W. P. Waters, Kearney, Neb.
Entered the service at Kearney, Neb., June 15, 1918, and trained at Lincoln Nebraska Uni., and Camp Sherman, for duty as auto mechanic, serving in the 335th Inf., 84th Div. which was badly cut up and he was transferred to the 91st.
