Was sixth in a family of nine children, grew up and worked on the farm in Phelps County for many years farming with horses; attended Sunday school at the Emmaus and Holcomb Evangelical Free churches; committed to follow Jesus Christ in 1944 at the Holcomb Church; as a young man, participated in local rodeos and parades and taught Sunday school
Married: Maxine Holmes on Jan. 22, 1950, right after the morning worship service at the Westmark Evangelical Free Church; were married for 66 years before she passed in 2016
Lived in Phelps County farming and ranching for their first 25 years of marriage; following the dream of ranching, lived several places, first in Loup and then Blaine County, then in Montana on the eastern slopes of the Rockies and finally in western Nebraska near Alliance; retired and relocated to Broken Bow in 2008; after suffering a fractured hip in January 2018, moved to Mother Hull Home in Kearney
Activities: was involved in Cattle Feeder's Association, the Funk Lion's Club, 4-H leadership and served on the school board at District R-5 and was an active member in the Holcomb EFC; completed his education and became a certified cattle buyer and bought cattle for local cattlemen throughout the area for many years; also enjoyed being a rodeo stock contractor with his brother Ward, providing stock for local amateur rodeos as well as putting on their own rodeos; has always been involved in church ministry wherever they lived, serving as deacon, trustee and usher; active member of the Gideons; his favorite place to serve was usher and loved to teach young people in the church how to welcome and encourage church attenders; also enjoyed cooking and serving men's fellowship breakfasts
Survivors include his brother and wife, Ward and Connie Anderson of Elm Creek and sister-in-law Sharon Anderson of Elm Creek; his children, Daniel and Wanda Anderson of St. Joseph, Missouri, June and Eric Petersen of Kearney, Wylie and Janet Anderson of Kimball, and Brad and Joye Anderson of Albion; 10 grandchildren with their spouses, 33 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, Lucy, daughter of Trent and Sophie Shell; along with and numerous nephews and nieces

Activities: charter member for the Knights of Columbus in both Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and Resurrection Catholic Church; most recently was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church; was a Fourth Degree in the order of Knights of Columbus and was appointed district deputy; member of the Elks, VFW and Safari International; traveled extensively, including a hunting safari to Africa in 2008; was an avid Nebraska football and volleyball fan; also loved history, was known to argue with the TV and could not be outdone in his history knowledge

While working at Brownville at the Cooper Nuclear Power Plant as a health physics technician, experienced a 50-foot fall that affected him the remainder of his life

Was a principal in LaBarge, Wyoming, and a well-loved classroom teacher in Colorado
Activities: in retirement, spent several years in Crystal Lakes, Colorado, enjoying the wildlife and nature that he so loved; in spite of permanent injuries, continued to run, bike, hike and ski, often wearing an old-fashioned knee brace; as a runner, participated in the Bolder Boulder and other races; camping, fishing and hunting were his favorite activities; enjoyed anything outdoors; health concerns and the desire to be closer to family prompted them to move back to Kearney; member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greeley, Colorado, for 20 years and continued to be a person of faith

Military: August 1954-July 1956; served 16 months in Hawaii as a mechanic with the 89th Tank Battalion attached to the 25th Division; was thrilled to reenact a picture of him in Hawaii on Pali Road 45 years later when they visited Hawaii for the 40th wedding anniversary

Resided their entire married life in Kearney; worked as a master scheduler and buyer at Rockwell International in Kearney for 28 years; retired from Chief Industries as a master scheduler in 1999; after retiring, drove a bus for RYDE transportation for 15 years, truly enjoyed his regular customers and especially admired those with disabilities
Activities: volunteer fireman with the Kearney Fire Department for 32 plus years, served as vice president, president, board member and 14 plus years as treasurer; was a certified EMT; also served as Social Club president since 1998; loved taking care of the Coffee Club and handing out the watches at the annual KVFD banquets; member of Elks Club 984 and received the Elk of the Year Award; enjoyed cooking for the Beer and Burger Nights for over 25 years; member of American Legion and Eagles Club; active member of First Lutheran Church, past council member, memorial committee, served communion, and enjoyed the fellowship of First Lutheran mission trips; longtime donor of platelets to the Red Cross; won the Good Neighbor Award for his dedication and assistance to his neighbors; enjoyed his gardening and lawn work; loved to travel, especially with longtime friends Jill and Marv Franzen; did a sky dive in California at 71 and again with his Goddaughter in Nebraska for his 85th birthday; was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend; earned the nickname 'McGyver" for his fix-it abilities

Moved to Kearney in 1949; worked at the ABC Drug Store and Montgomery Ward
Married: Dale McCammon on June 17, 1951, at First United Methodist Church in Kearney
Was a devoted wife and mother; was an excellent housekeeper, keeping track of everything for her family and always having a spotless house; was an advocate of women's rights,always told her daughters that they could do anything they set their minds to; instilled a love of reading in them; volunteered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, served in several offices and traveled extensively; started the Avenue of Flags project at the Kearney Cemetery; on Memorial Day of 1984, 10 flags were raised at the cemetery; now almost 500 flags fly each Memorial Weekend; remained in her home after Dale's death, until age 94; was hospitalized in November 2020, then moved to the care home in Blue Hill for a few months, then came back to Kearney to live at Mount Carmel home

Was ordained at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island in 1961; served as a priest at St. Mary's Hospital in North Platte, then in parishes at Sidney, Amherst and Eddyville, St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island, Shelton, Ainsworth, Scottsbluff, Blessed Sacrament in Grand Island, and 26 years in Cozad and Gothenburg; taught and administered at multiple Catholic schools during these assignments; served as the Catholic chaplain of the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Grand Island, became involved in the alcohol treatment program and celebrated 45 years of sobriety at the time of his death; retired in 2015, moved to Kearney, served at Prince of Peace and St. James Catholic churches, Good Samaritan Hospital and Mount Carmel Home; celebrated 61 years as a priest on May 23, 2022; touched many lives as a priest and was the patriarch of the O'Brien family

Activities: was an avid hunter, enjoyed shooting pool, and was an accomplished fast pitch softball player in his younger years; greatest joy was just being outdoors and doing outdoor activities, including boating and camping; proud member of the NRA

Activities: had a treu selfness nature; bonded so well with her sons, in particular their love of cooking, which of course they got from her; with Monte purchased the home farm her father; longed to move back to the farm upon retirement

After his wife's death in 2007, felt a Strong calling from God and entered the seminary in Hales Corners, Wisconsin; was ordained into the Priesthood on June 4, 2010, in Grand Island; was an associate pastor of Holy Spirit in North Platte and Sacred Heart Parish in Sutherland; greatly enjoyed his time as a priest until his retirement from the active ministry in 2013; moved into Meadowlark Pointe assisted living facility in Cozad, remained there until his death

Activities: enjoyed every second of family time she had; enjoyed traveling in retirement; had a magnetic personality that made people want to be around her

Activities: was a caring, kind, supportive and loving mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend; her family was the light of her life; enjoyed sewing and made many things over the years for her family and friends; crocheted baby hats for local hospitals and other items for family and friends; competed in catfish tournaments; enjoyed trips with her family, and always had time to listen and would do anything for her family

Activities: in retirement, traveled across the United States in their motorhome for adventures to Texas, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma and New Orleans for Mardi Gras and dance conventions in Independence, Indiana and Champagne, Illinois; enjoyed dances in Hastings, the Liederkranz Ballroom in Grand Island, the Flying V in Utica, and the Plamor Ballroom in Lincoln; loved her family, enjoyed her great-grandchildren's activities
Survivors include her daughter, Lynnda Shaffer and husband Dr. Ken Shaffer of Kearney and daughter Vicki Bentley of Scottsbluff; sister, Mickey Stover of Oxford; sister-in-law, Alice Schnuerle of Denver; sister-in-law Marilyn Schnuerle of Kearney; foster sister Janetta Graff of Edgewater, Florida; granddaughter, Katie Shaffer Songster and husband Craig of Lincoln; grandson, Dr. Rob Shaffer and wife Tova of Kearney; granddaughter, Nichole Bentley Schneider and husband Brett of Irving, Texas, and grandson, Jon Bentley and wife Teresa of Scottsbluff; great-grandchildren, Brigham and Laney Songster of Lincoln, Quinten, Evan and Cecilia Shaffer of Kearney, Mitchell and wife Alma Schneider, Zach Schneider, Brayden Schneider and Jackson Briscoe of Dallas, Texas, and Kaylee, Emilee and Natalee Bentley of Scottsbluff; in addition to many nieces, nephews and friends
