After marriage lived first in Lincoln, briefly worked in the pediatrics and newborn wards at Bryan Memorial Hospital and Bill graduated froamp;m the University of Nebraska School of Law; then moved to Kearney where they made their home; Bill worked in the family business of W.W. Barney & Son; Verna worked at Student Health at Kearney State College and volunteered at the Red Cross Bloodmobile until 1987; was primarily a homemaker while raising the children
Activities: was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter FN; loyal member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, member of the Altar Guild and sang in the choir along with Bill every Sunday; volunteered at the Nearly New Shop at the church, which later became the Jubilee Center; was awarded the Kiwanis Citizen of the Year in 1983; loved to play golf; loved to work outdoors in the yard, and in her daily walks would make sure her neighbor’s yards were free of trash and weeds; took great pride in helping others; greatest joy was her family

Returned home, and raised cattle, farmed and worked for Hervert Implement driving a truck, often taking truckloads of cattle to Omaha
Married: Bernadene Chloupek on Nov. 26, 1960; was married for 52 years
Activities: in his younger years, was an avid fisherman and hunter; was one of the founding members of the Sweetwater Coyote Club; truly loved local history, and liked to visit with anyone young or old about local happenings and history; was one of the Sweetwater Gang that robbed the Ravenna Bank in 1967; enjoyed playing cards; greatest joy was his three grandsons; at the time of his death, was still residing at the farm where he was born almost 89 years ago
Survivors include: his son, Brent (Chris) Bauer and grandsons, Paul, Michael and Josh, all of Ravenna; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Richard Chloupek and Betty Chloupek of Kearney and Gary and Sandy Wright of Broken Bow; and nieces, nephews and cousins

Activities: in Gibbon and Kearney, volunteered at church, at the Good Samaritan Hospital and the Good Samaritan Hospice Program; was on the board of the Gibbon Alumni Association and the Gibbon Education Foundation; passionately raised money for the new Gibbon High School; enjoyed traveling with her children, especially to visit her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; participated in her coffee group, Bible study, Red Hats amd Kearney Community Theatre; was a woman of strength and faith; her family was most important to her

Activities: member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; served on the Ravenna Volunteer Fire Department for 14 years; enjoyed sports, coaching baseball for his sons’ teams; played golf, enjoyed Nebraska football and Cubs baseball and enjoyed supporting the Ravenna Bluejays athletes; loved people and spending time with friends and family, especially his granddaughters

At the age of 9 months, Aunt Rose and Uncle Howard Ferguson lovingly took her in their home to share their lives
Attended Gibbon and Kearney educational systems and proudly received her GED from Kearney State College; graduated from Queen Ann Beauty School
Owned and operated the Silver Lady Beauty Salon for 10 years, which was built by the hands of her husband and boys
Married: March 5, 1954, to James Vern Gard; raised four children, which she states was her proudest achievement
Worked in sales for five years until retirement, but her true passion was cooking for others; was the head cook for two restaurants for five years
Activities: taught Sunday school, Bible school, served as Cub Scout leader, instructor for den mothers for Scout council, enjoyed fundraising, served as community council president, craft fair organizer and a member of her favorite club, the Pioneer Club Extension Club, due to the wonderful ladies who served as fellow members; was the caregiver to anyone who needed help; was a member of the Presbyterian Church, then Faith United Methodist Church; loved to garden, watch birds, raise exotic chickens, decorate, work in her yard, grow flowers and listen to classical music

After marriage, lived in Lincoln, Nebr., started his professional career as a shop teacher; later moved on to more technical fields, worked as an instrument technician at a nuclear power plant, medical equipment sales to hospitals, communication equipment sales and finally was self-employed in the early years of satellite television; lived in various places but spent the most time in Kansas City, MO, Omaha, NE, and Halltown, MO.
Activities:was quite a craftsman, built three boats while still in school; enjoyed water skiing and flying; became a private pilot, owned several airplanes throughout his life and was blessed to be able to fly extensively across the US as part of his job; continued to love teaching
Survivors include his wife Barbara, and children Cherie Snavely and Brad Holliday, his grandson Luke Holliday, and great grandsons Luca and Milo Holliday

Survivors include: three daughters, Rolmia Cervantes, Aurelia (Santos) Mendez, and Guadalupe Zapata; grandchildren Miguel, Ramon, Benita (Lucio), Diana (Christian), Candelaria (Pedro), Carlos, Anahi, Juliana, Omar, Isais, Nathanial, Isaac, Reyna, Luis, Romelia, Nehamias and David; three great-grandchildren; also brothers, Celestino, Joe (Barb), Max (Betty), Gabriel (Christina), Victor and Paul; sister, Gloria; many nieces, nephews and best friend Gary Kneher
Was preceded in death by his parents; sisters-in-law Carol, Susie and Rene; and two grandchildren, Eulalia and Hector Jr.
