After marriage, lived in Kearney, Lincoln and Omaha, Neb., and Kansas City; worked in the construction industry in carpentry and sales; his craftsmanship can be witnessed in dozens of decks, sunrooms and other additions he lovingly and meticulously designed and constructed throughout the Kansas City area
Activities: a special joy was being a walk-on linebacker in Tom Osborne’s first recruiting class on the University of Nebraska football team; a promising football career ended abruptly his freshman year in an unfortunate shoulder injury; was a beloved father, grandfather and man about town; was well known for his eagerness to lend a helping hand in anything from a small repair to a mounting household crisis; spent the last two weeks of his life providing 24-hour in-home nursing care for his father
Survivors include: his four sons, Josh and wife Nicole, Jordan and wife Becca, Dillon and wife Leah and Spencer and wife Kristi; grandchildren, Emma, Levi, Haleigh, Maggie, Noah, Maxton and Reese; and brother, Don Bergsten and his wife and children

BLANCHARD, Oliver Frank, 32, of Shelton, died Monday, July 23, 1951, in a hospital at Akron, Colorado, of injuries received Sunday in a stock truck accident. The vehicle struck a bridge abutment 50 miles east of Limon, CO. on U.S. Hwy 34. The young man was alone in the truck at the time had taken a load of hogs to Denver and was on his way home. He was employed by Floyd Marquis of Gibbon, owner of the truck. Tickets found in his pocket indicated that he had stopped for gasoline and had lunch Sunday at noon in Fort Morgan, CO. which is about 30 miles west of Akron. The truck was completely demolished and the trailer was also reported badly damaged

Burial: Riverside cemetery at Gibbon. Shelton Post No. 297, American Legion was in charge of graveside rites

Was the art director at NTV in the early 1970s; worked as a security guard at Kearney State College and also at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney; retired from Good Sam in 2013 after 23 years
Activities: loved cats and treasured many throughout her lifetime; loved watching football, including the Huskers; was on a bowling league for 25 years; also loved to cook and enjoyed traveling; loved her Lord Jesus and knew she was going to heaven; told her family in recent months that when God spoke to her, He called her “my child.”

Grew up on the farm with older brother Don, younger sisters Doris (“Dode”), Jean and little brother Ray; attended grade school in a one room country schoolhouse, passed her county boards; moved to Kearney to complete high school, lived in an apartment above the Kearney Opera House with a friend and her grandmother; graduated from Kearney High School in 1935 and received her Teaching Certificate from the Kearney Normal School in August 1936, at the age of 17
Taught school for one year; then worked at Good Samaritan Hospital, was later assigned to work in the x-ray department under Sister Nicosia; eventually became a certified x-ray technician and Director of the Good Samaritan X-ray Department
Married: John Gion December 29, 1941. He died in May 1946
Married: Charles Evans, April 12, 1955; he died Feb. 27, 2002

Returned to Cozad, worked for his father in his grocery store

Co-owned Miller’s Market grocery store with his brother; later it became Food Town and he took full ownership; was a Cozad businessman for over 45 years, was instrumental in Cozad’s growth by hiring many employees and giving opportunities to grow within the store’s business; was a very giving and caring employer
Activities: was an active Jaycees member, contributed to community activities; was generous to any club or organization that needed donations; was one of the original members of the Cozad Elks Lodge and of the Cozad Country Club; active member of the American Lutheran Church and served as a council member; more recently, moved to Kearney to be closer to family; enjoyed fishing, golfing and water skiing, was skilled in trick-skiing backwards; loved traveling overseas and throughout the United States; was captivating and quick-witted, loved the hard work as an entrepreneur and a huge love of family and friends

After marriage, moved to Minden, raised three sons; farming life and raising horses was a dream come true; was a stay-at-home mom, then became a licensed insurance agent; later worked at Kearney Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic as an office manager, eventually became the Administrator and was instrumental in the building of their new facility; retired in 2001 after 18+ years, and moved to Lincoln to be near children and grandchildren; worked as a Data Entry Clerk at UNL Dental College, retired from there in 2010
Activities: friends and family were her delight and passion; received many recognitions and accolades including Kearney Chamber of Commerce Board, Chancellors Advisory Board, Kearney Board of Adjustment, First Woman President of Kearney Rotary, Fellow in Medical Group Management; also did many speaking engagements with Christian Women’s Clubs in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa, gave her testimony at the Mayor’s Prayer breakfast; enjoyed taking her granddaughters on "dates;" will be remembered for her amazing sense of humor and optimistic outlook
Was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 74; was cared for at home by Dwight until the last few months, then became a resident of Lancaster Rehab Memory Care Unit

Activities: was an avid golfer, horseshoe enthusiast, champion bowler and gardener; loved to grow roses in their back yard; was a lifelong enthusiastic Nebraska Cornhuskers fan and member of the Georgians for Nebraska fan club; loved to travel, had been to many locations across the world, including Australia, South Africa, Egypt, Europe and most states, including Alaska and Hawaii; was a founding member of Allgood Road United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain, and a member at Decatur First United Methodist Church
