Had several career moves, was in management for Foley’s Department Stores, then opened a small pet store in downtown Houston, which soon became the world’s largest pet store encompassing an entire city block; traveled to 29 countries finding exotic birds and animals for the store; also gave lectures at pet-related seminars and conventions
Retired and returned to Kearney, bought a house with an apartment near the University of Nebraska at Kearney; enjoyed working with the college students and helping them find housing, bought several more rental properties; offered a scholarship to UNK students who were living in his apartments, in the form of a free month’s rent if they got on the dean’s list; over the years, befriended and helped a diverse mixture of interesting people

Activities: enjoyed restoring old houses with her husband was a secondary passion that took them through several interesting projects that proved to be both fun and challenging; loved books and researched many materials to fulfill her understanding of academics and the nature of life itself. She was firm in her religious beliefs and respected the fallibility of human life and redemption of it to its greatest potential. Was a devoted and loving mother and stayed home with her daughters; after daughters were out of elementary school, began working part time at The Ravenna News in the 1980s as a typesetter, worked her way up to office manager and later to editor and part owner; won many Nebraska Press Association awards through the years
Activities: was devoted to her church and community; attended the monthly school board and City Council meetings, covering everything she could in a fair and accurate way for her newspaper; helped promote the businesses, sporting events, school functions, various benefits and fundraisers in Ravenna; was a member of many community organizations, including the Ravenna Community Foundation, Ravenna Economic Development Corp. and Ravenna Chamber of Commerce
