One of her fond memories was serving at the Canteen in North Platte during World War II. Lewise and her cousin, Edna, would take cake and sandwiches on the train ride from Gothenburg to North Platte. She would mention you always needed an extra cake in case it was a soldier’s birthday. They danced with the soldiers and served delicious food to encourage them during their service

Began teaching at Bryant Elementary, taught for 40 years; retired in 2011
Activities: enjoyed being outdoors, walking her dog, gardening, crafting, shopping and reading; loved decorating her home inside and out for every season; member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Daughters of the American Revolution and Kearney Education Association; was a volunteer for the Kearney Area Animal Shelter and the American Red Cross
Was preceded in death by her parents
