In summer 1924, the family moved to Alma to live with another aunt and uncle until 1926. The family lived in Alma, where she graduated from high school in 1934. She attended Kearney State Teacher's College for two years, and later taught school in Harlan and Franklin counties

Couple lived in Alma, Franklin, Kearney and Axtell and in Wichita, Kan.
