PRAIRIE CENTER CEMETERY

Prairie Center Cemetery Sign

Prairie Center Cemetery is in Section 18 of Thornton Township,
near the corner of 160th Road and Antelope Avenue. It is sometimes referred to as Haven's Chapel.

In December of 1883 a meeting was held in the home of Robert Richard
to form a cemetery association. The motion was made and seconded to
form the Prairie Center Cemetery association.

On 3 January 1891, Frank Fuller and wife Mary sold 3 acres to the
Prairie Center Cemetery Association for $24.00. This cemetery is
located in the SE 1/4 of Section 18.

The Cemetery Association in 1970 voted to adopt a system of perpetual
care. September 22, 1978 Amos Wietjes sold an additional 1.26 acres
to the cemetery association for $1,262.

A small community with just a post office by the name Prairie Center existed
in the early 1880's. It was located 2 miles N of the present Prairie Center Cemetery.
