posted by W K Anderson on Saturday, February 5, 2000: What are the time periods for Trinity Lutheran Church, Anoka, and was the name of the Catholic church at Baker, Baker Church? When did this Catholic church in Baker disband? I believe Trinity, at Anoka, started about 1920, but I don't know when it disbanded, or exactly when it started. Thanks.

I too would like to learn more about this church. I understand it first began in a sod building but don't have the date handy or exact location. The church was still functioning in the early 40's because I remember attending activities in the frame building in Anoka. I have several photographs of the building, several of the interior and one with many people standing on the front steps of the building. I can scan and e-mail these upon request.

The Catholic church at Baker was called "St. Joseph's Catholic Church". It was built in 1900 - I don't know when the congregation first met. When it started, it was a mission of St. Mary's Church in Spencer, NE. Property for the church and cemetery was donated by Christian Velder. The church and parochial school burned 1927. A new building was built in 1931. The church closed in 1951 when it merged with it's parent church in Spencer. When the railroad did not come to Baker, the town slowly disappeared and was none existant about 20 years before the church closed. "The Saga of the Missouri River Reveille" by Adeline S. Gnirk has more details on this church and community. Also, I have some familiarity with the community if there are specific questions.

I am Looking for where Zachriah Taylor Smith was born. I have he was born Mercer, New Jersey. He was my g-g-grandfather. Our family is trying to find where he lived. And how many brothers and sisters he might have had. We can not find out anything on this family. We live in Washington state. And we no that they lived in Nebraska for a time. GRAY, HOTALING posted by Frank Hotaling on Thursday, February 10, 2000: My grandfather, James Hotaling, and his brothers homesteaded in Holt County then Boyd came into existence and the boundary line changed. I would like to find where I can locate a platte map for the Eastern Boyd County for about 1885 give or take a few years. If anyone knows where I can find one I would appreciate knowing. Thank you. I didn't now I regret it. It was a recent book like a centennial but that was not its name. I think it was called " Before Today " or something like that. I would be very interested in finding where I can locate this book. It has great information on my Great Uncle.

I found a Ole Blele in the Naper Cemetary. Male with 2 kids. Glibert married in Herrick (sp) South Dakota. He also had 2 sister (not sure if there are more) Lulu and Ida.

My Maternal Grandfather was William Fritz married to Lily (earlier spelling Lillie) Schumann and lived in Boyd County north of Butte. I know that William and Herman were brothers and my Mother, Merna Fernau knew Herman and Venus well. I am going there tomorrow - Feb. 27 so will try to remember to ask her about it. My Great Grandparents were buried in Boyd Co., NE - William Milan Sower (Bluemound Cemetary) and Fanny (Frena) Craly (Craley). My Great Grandfather also was married to Anna Plessel Benash. If anyone has any information, I would appreciate it. This is as far as I have been able to go with the family tree.

AUBERT, CLAUSEN, DRINKALL, MCKINSEY, VANSICKLE posted by Pennie on Friday, March 17, 2000: My grandmother was born Edna Iness McKinsey March 4,1895 in Gross Ne. (Boyd County) Her parents were John & Belle McKinsey. Siblings included sisters named Clara, Alice & Alifie. A Diptheria fever went through Gross around 1898 taking the lives of many residents. Among those was twins named Chance (Chancey)and we think Charles. There were a total of 13 in the family. Can anyone tell me the names & dates of others in the family or tell me more about their life in Boyd County. My grandmother left Gross around 1915 for school. She went to Central College near Central City (Merrick Co.) Nebraska. Thank you!

WALTH posted by Joe E. Thurstenson on Friday, March 17, 2000: I am looking for any WALTH family who might have slipped over the border from South Dakota and took up residence in Boyd County. These would be the children of George Walth who farmed about a mile into South Dakota north of the Anoka and Baker Community. I am especially interested in George's daughter Magdaline (b. 3/1890, d 8/4/1979) who married John F. Walth. We want to learn about them and their children.

CLARK, FALKNER, FAULKNER, FOLKNER, GRIZZLE posted by Laban West on Monday, March 27, 2000: I am looking for any information on Faulkners who lived in southwest VA (Wythe/Scott Co's) between 1790 and 1850. A David Falkner (and spouse Celia Grizzle) along with David's sister Mary Falkner (and spouse William Grizzle) moved to IN from Scott Co. VA c.1835. David Falkner had 21 children by two wives. I believe one or more of his children had ties to Boyd Co. After Celia died in 1856, David married Mary Clark in 1857 in IN. He and his family eventually settled in Brown Co. TX c.1881.
