HOTALING, HOTELING, HOUGHTALING posted by Frank Hotaling on Tuesday, May 11, 1999

I am searching for information on James HOTALING his family and brothers. He ran a stage coach, mail and frt line out of Butte (Boyd County) to various points in the 1890s. It appears he and his brothers George and Peter all homesteaded in Holt Co. in abt 1884. James' wife's first name on the 1885 NE census is "Geir" does anyone know if this is a nickname or a complete name. I am guessing that it is german. HOUGHTALING is of Dutch orgin. Any help will greatly be appreciated and I'll trade information if interested. Thanks Frank. Hotalingfl@aol.com

KNITTEL, STIRM, WAGNER posted by Judith Meierhenry on Sunday, May 16, 1999

I am looking for information on my ancestors, Knittel and Wagner during the time they lived around Butte, NE. About 1890 the Knittel family moved to Butte and had a farm one mile west of Butte. John and Christine Knittel with their sons Martin, Fred and Joe and daughter Maria. I am also looking for information concerning my great grandmother Maria Hauf Stirm Wagner. She also owned land around Butte between 1890-1905. Her children were Mary Wagner, Lena Wagner and Konstantine Stirm.
It is believed that Mary Wagner and her sister Lena Wagner did housework for "well-to-do" families in Butte while they were growing up (1890-1905). Also I have been told that the Lutheran Church was moved into Butte from south of town and the Bell that still sits in front of the church was given to the church by Maria Wagner and a Mrs. Horst. Maria Wagner's farm was south of Butte. One of the relatives also thought that Maria Wagner gave some land to the school in Butte. These families were Germans from Russia. Any verification or information greatly appreciated.

My ggrandfather's name was Levi Billeter, the son of Penthus Billeter and Susannah Beauchamp. I have a copy of the 1880 census of Shelby County, Iowa which lists a Henry Billeter age 20 as living in the home of Penthus. I know that Levi homesteaded in Boyd County in 1891-1893 time frame and lived there many years. Levi is the brother of Henry. Could this be your William Henry Billeter?

It is possible that Levi and William are related. I do not know for sure. It would be helpful if we could get a copy of the 1900 or 1910 census for Boyd County, Nebraska. William Henry Billeter homesteaded in Butte, Boyd County, Nebraska. He (William Henry) was married to Adeline Jeanette Miller.
